Fortunately for my ego and unfortunately for my wallet, I was right on the money with my assessment. The car was a bone stock 1991 model that had sat for four years, had one resilient mouse live its entire adult life in the engine bay, and had an insanely unsafe fuel pump modification installed by a previous prospective buyer. The seats were ripped, the fuel was beyond varnished, and there was a bit of mold coming out of the vents. The phrase “total loss” would have been several steps up from the condition of this purple pile of crap.
