NASCAR Changes Postseason Banquet Venue Over Trump Comments On Mexicans
NASCAR Changes Postseason Banquet Venue Over Trump Comments On Mexicans-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:40

It looks like NASCAR won’t be funding the hairspray-comb-magic-voodoo that shapes Donald Trump’s mysterious combover hairstyle this year. Per USA Today reporter , the racing series will no longer use the Trump National Doral Miami for its postseason banquet.

Donald Trump recently came under fire for he made about Mexican immigrants in a speech announcing his run for president.

“They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, ... and some, I assume, are good people,” he said in his announcement, as quoted by .

Trump later this statement to CNN’s Don Lemon, digging the hole deeper by taking statistics from a story on Central American migrants who travel through Mexico out of context to claim that “somebody’s doing the raping.”

NASCAR joins a who have found Trump’s recent statements on Mexican immigrants offensive enough to cut ties with the mogul.

According to , this came after the urging of Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis, who sent a letter to NASCAR stating that he would not attend the Camping World Truck Series postseason banquet at the usual Trump resort. An excerpt from the letter quoted in USA Today reads:

Our company will not stand to support any person or organization that associates with such beliefs and we feel strongly about distancing ourselves from any negative and discriminatory comments made against any gender, ethnicity, age group or so forth. I would hope that the entire NASCAR organization would agree with my sentiments.

Camping World is the title sponsor of NASCAR’s truck racing series, and Lemonis himself even appeared on two episodes of Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice television show.

NASCAR has likewise been trying to ensure its atmosphere remains open and friendly to all its fans, most recently .
