2024-02-19 EST 22:13:44

As enthusiasts, we take changing the oil in our cars very seriously. But for many people changing the oil is an afterthought and look for the cheapest and easy way possible. These folks usually get what they pay for. The New Jersey consumer office has just issued a "stop sale" due to deceptive products for deceptive labeling.

According to , the Stop-Use and Removal Order is the result of an investigation by the state attorney general's office. In independent lab tests, investigators found that each of the oils failed to live up to the viscosity measurements specified on their own labels.

State consumer affairs office bans sale of 19 motor oils over deceptive labeling

"The products we're banning here today were found to have widely and unacceptably at variance with industry standards," said Steve Lee, acting consumer affairs director at state attorney general's office. "These products therefore bear misleading labels that provide the consumers with no way to know whether they are appropriate for specific vehicles."

Retailers and automotive professionals are now required to stop selling and using the 19 motor oil products, and to remove them from their stores. Failure to comply could face a $100 civil fine per package or container of each motor oil.

A complete list of the banned oils are as follows:

Auto Club Motor Oil SAE 5W-30

Auto Club Motor Oil SAE 10W-30

Auto Club Motor Oil SAE 10W-40

Auto Club Motor Oil SAE 20W-50

Black Knight Motor Oil 5-30

U.S. Spirit Motor Oil SAE 10W-30th

NJ is now the 6th state to ban the sale and use of the above products.

Don't buy cheap oil folks, and if you are going to pay someone else to change your oil make sure they are using quality stuff.

There’s no question that Tesla absolutely revolutionized electric cars and that they have some really elegant engineering and careful design for their cars. I can think of a few places where “social distancing” was the norm before our current global pandemic, but the You-Yank-It junkyard is definitely one. I masked and gloved up a couple of weekends ago and paid a visit to my local yard so I could see what treasures...

Ever since , I’ve received an outpouring of vitriol from homeowners. But between the claims that I’m an inconsiderate neighbor and folks calling me a hoarder, some words of solidarity have shined through. Some of them come from people in similar situations, like this man from North Carolina, who...
