Following its debut at the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show, Mitsubishis all-new entry-level five-door Mirage hatchback is set to enter the South African market for the very first time in August 2014.
The new Mitsubishi Miragewill be entering a packedsegment and will be going up against the likes of the Honda Brio, Hyundai i10, Renault Sandero, Suzuki Swift 1.2, Volkswagen Polo Vivo and the Ford Fiesta. That’s some stiff competition and while we’ll always look forward to new models, we think this vehicle is in for a tough time.
The new Mitsubishi Mirage is equipped with a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-timing Electronic Control) petrol engine which is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
Fuel consumption is rated at 4.9 litres/100 km and according to Mitsubishi, ‘this allows the Mirage to punch above its weight on the fuel efficiency front, and is acclaimed as the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid petrol vehicle available in the United States.’
Additionally the new Mirage will come with keyless entry, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-fluid distribution, two air bags and Mitsubishi’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) impact-absorbing chassis. It will also come with a three-year or 100 000km warranty.
