Nice Price Or Crack Pipe: Factory Racer Porsche 914-6 For $325,000?
Nice Price Or Crack Pipe: Factory Racer Porsche 914-6 For $325,000?-May 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:20

We had the score a 44% on the Crack-Pipe-O-Meter™ last Friday, but that was due to 21% of the vote going to "other", thanks to a poll glitch. Today we're going with a car that most likely earns an approval rating of about 99.9999% from our readers: a factory-built Porsche 914-6 race car that spent its working life as a test vehicle in Stuttgart and never got beat up on the race track… until a few years ago, when it hit the vintage-race circuit. The car's seller adheres firmly to hallowed eBay tradition and goes for the EASY ON THE EYES CAPSLOCK style, though we're going to have to dock him some points for insufficiently incorrect spelling and punctuation, but it's the car's price that really gets our attention: $325,000! Great car, but would you need to smoke a rock the size of your head to have that price make sense?

79% of our readers thought that $25,000 was a hubba-fied price for 1984 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z, but…

[, thanks to Brennan for the tip.

At $12,500, Is This 2005 Audi A6 Avant Allroad A Scary Good Deal?
Today’s A6 Avant is an Allroad, a model derided by some as being one of the flakiest models Audi has ever offered. It still has its defenders, and this particular one looks extra nice. Let’s see if there’s any defending its price. A common insult in politics right now...

At $33,400, Is This 2006 Chevy SSR A Ridiculous Deal?
At $33,400, Is This 2006 Chevy SSR A Ridiculous Deal?
While its lines are retro, there’s nothing old-fashioned about the drivetrain or fancy folding top on today’s SSR. Let’s decide if this audacious albeit oddball truck has an equally crazy price. If you’re anything like me, then your vision of yesterday’s revolved around fixing its flaws and then seeking...

If You're Going To Try To Flip A Car, Maybe Don't Try A Chrysler
If You're Going To Try To Flip A Car, Maybe Don't Try A Chrysler
Flippers were a scourge of the auto market during the thick of the pandemic. Many were people with more money than a care in the world buying up in-demand and then flipping them for profit to buyers who had more money than sense. Fortunately for the rest of us,...

At $6,000, Is This 1985 Volvo 240 Wagon A Holy Grail Deal?
We all know that the only things to be left after the apocalypse will be roaches and cars like today’s Volvo. Let’s see if this one is presently priced to weather both the world’s end and our voting. Audi loves its nomenclature. The company has a number of vehicles...

The Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Is Fantastic, Actually
The Land Rover Defender 110 V8 Is Fantastic, Actually
Some people were kind of salty about Land Rover reimagining the Defender a few years ago. They were mad that it was bigger and more modern and had features like independent suspension and infotainment. They lamented the new car’s complexity, and while on some level, I get that ,...

At $12,500, Will This 1989 VW Vanagon ‘Weekender’ Make Your Week?
There are plenty of cults in the world to join, but one of the more fun ones is the VW Van fan club. Today’s Vanagon is a ticket to entry. Let’s see if its price is something you wouldn’t have to be too crazy to pay. I’m going to...
