Not-A-Kit-Car 1979 Panther Lima Turbo for $15,000!
Not-A-Kit-Car 1979 Panther Lima Turbo for $15,000!-May 2024

British sports cars bring you driving enjoyment at the cost of reliability. Today, brings you an English cat with said reliability issues, but without the stigma of easy parts availability.

Yesterday we had a car that claimed a driver's throne made from the King of the Jungle. A roaring 98% of you felt, even with that attribute, it lacked pride.

Today, we have a different kind of cat to consider- a Panther. For those of you unfamiliar with the marque, it's English, and as such- eccentric. Founded in 1972, Panther Westwind built a series of hand-crafted, and terribly expensive boutique automobiles. The name came from its close approximation to the Jaguar brand, and, in fact, a number of Panther's cars were jag-powered. Two that were not were the 6-wheel , both of which were Cadillac-powered, and the , which took its heart from the Vauxhall Magnum, and its name from a legume.

This Lima is turbocharged, which brings the 2279cc 4 cylinder's horsepower up to a big cat-worthy 134. That should be enough to keep things interesting while the car's on the road, and as one of only 918 built, you're unlikely to see another one when you are. That rarity brings with it problems as well. Vauxhall was never sold in the U.S. and parts for much of the car (save its MG Midget doors/side glass) can't be found at the local Kragan. Tops, brake pads, air filters, ball joints, etc, will all have to be sourced from either the British Isles, or through some weird guy in South Carolina who has almost as many Vauxhall parts as he does liver spots.

So, is fifteen grand the cat's meow for this limited production English tabby? Or does that price make you want to cough up a hairball?

You decide!

A Teenage Kansas Farmer Built This Diesel Off-Road Corvette And It's A Stroke Of Genius
When the C8 Corvette , I bet most of us were deeply disappointed that its 490 horsepower V8 engine was not a much, much less powerful, heavier, less-refined diesel motor. But there’s good news, because a compression-ignition Corvette does exist, though it wasn’t built by GM, but instead by...

At $13,500, Could This 1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo Be Two Times The Fun?
There’s a good reason beyond its impressive specs to want to buy today’s 300ZX, and that’s the ability to boast about its having the same headlamps as certain Lamborghini Diablos. Let’s see what that sort of bragging rights might just be worth. Retro cars—meaning those that are modeled on...

How The Hyundai Veloster N Became The New Office Favorite
If you had told any of us five years ago that arguably the best value in the hot hatch segment would not just come from Hyundai, but it’d be a hotted-up version of the Veloster, we’d have been on the phone with your loved ones and your physician to...

This Arizona Dealership Is Asking $148,000 For A Hellcat-Swapped Jeep Gladiator
The car community has been masochistically obsessed with the idea of a Hellcat engine stuffed inside of a since the Wrangler-based pickup truck debuted, despite the straight from Jeep. But the Hellcat Gladiator exists nonetheless, and one could be yours for just $150,000. The 707-horsepower Gladiator is for sale...

For $13,499, Could This 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Have You Saying ‘Ooh Baby?’
The seller of today’s FJ Cruiser calls the truck Baby. That’s kind of weird but doesn’t mean we can’t decide what name to call this updated truck’s asking price. Aspiration can make for great inspiration. If you want something more, or something better then you strive to achieve that....

The Turbocharged Mazda 6 Might Be The Best Sports Sedan You Can Buy For Under $25,000
The Turbocharged Mazda 6 Might Be The Best Sports Sedan You Can Buy For Under $25,000
I’m going to admit that I didn’t really buy into the hype when the updated 2013 came out. It was stylish and handled well, but for a company whose tagline used to be “Zoom, Zoom” it felt a bit slow. with an available turbo motor and now those cars...
