Part 1

The 2014 Edition of the Parx Supercar Show was held at the parking lot of the Vidhan Bhavan building in South Mumbai on the 11th of January 12. In its sixth edition, the Supercar Show has always been about panache, style, frenzied audiences and obviously uber expensive supercars and this one did not disappoint on any of those fronts.

Organised by the Super Car Club of India, the line-up for this year included the usual BMWs Mercedes-Benzs, Audis, Lamborghinis but also included some classics like a Ferrari 348TS, 1969 VW Beetle and a specially built Ford based hot-rod called the Rebel.

As usual the Supercar Show also included a parade of vehicles from the venue to the entrance of Bandra-Kurla complex via Malabar Hill and back. However, given the milling and rather curious crowds most of the supercar owners decided to cut through smaller roads and complete the journey at a much faster rate than the media vehicles did.

Gaurav Gill – Winner of India’s National Rally Championship, National Road Racing Championship and FIA APRC Rally Indonesia 2008 graced the event. Gaurav Gill made history by becoming the first Indian driver to win the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championship. Also present on the occasion was N. Leelakrishnan – six time India’s National Rally Champion and one time Formula 3 (India) champion from Coimbatore, India. Leela, as he is fondly called in Indian racing circles, is currently the Chief Technical Director of Red Rooster Racing.

This year saw the entry of two speciality cars- the Ariel Atom and the Terra 14-R. The former is an English two-seater speciality race car that has been designed for the purpose of going really fast around corners.

Its purity of purpose is evident in the 2.0-litre petrol engine sitting behind the driver churning out 245bhp and an equal amount of torque as well as the lack of any body panels.

The Campagana T-Rex 14R is a trike with a cabin. It sports 15-inch wheels in the front and a single 18-inch in the rear. The Canadian car is powered by a .14-litre Kawasaki engine that produces 197bhp and 153Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheel via six-speed sequential gearbox.

Part 3

The European line-up included the usual show stoppers like the Audi R8, Maserati Gran Cabrio, Audi RS5 Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari California, a Lamborghini Aventador as well as a RHD Ferrari 348TS from the late 1980’s.

The luxury car line- up saw the arrival of a Mansory prepared Bentley Continental GT and a Rolls Royce Phantom. The winner of the show was also chosen from the European Line, it was a-silver wrapped Lamborghini Gallardo.

The other speciality of the show was a custom built Ford- based hot rod--Rebel. Owned by Gautam Singhania, president of the supercar club of India, it follows all the requisites for a hot rod and is powered by a massive Ford V8 which is believed to be displacing around 300bhp.

The show also included an assortment of drift cars that had been decked out in the Raymond Livery. Known for the reputation of small rear- wheel- drive cars, most of the fleet was Japanese and included a Mazda RX-7, Nissan Sylvia and a Subaru Impreza.

Part 4

This year’s edition much like all the others pulled in the crowds and gave them a healthy dose of superchargers, turbochargers and many horsepowers. For a city like Mumbai which has all the money and style but none of the space-this was a good balance and an opportunity for every person present to bring out the nine-year-old in them.
