Many Porsches have just been recalled — approximately 193,000 in total, covering four models released between 2003 and 2020. That’s a lot of cars! The culprit is a missing headlight part that doesn’t inhibit their function, but does make it easy to misalign them, causing visibility issues for drivers and fellow motorists alike.

The headlights on 17 model-years’ worth of , , and models should have come equipped with a “horizontal adjustment screw cap,” designed to prevent you from tweaking the low beam’s alignment beyond the acceptable, legal range. The recalled cars do not have this cap, making it possible for an owner or mechanic to reposition the low beams too far to the left or right, fail to properly light the path ahead and, likely, blind oncoming drivers.

Of course, Porsche will add these caps free of charge, and letters to affected owners are expected to be mailed by the end of October. If you’re curious whether your Porsche is affected, the contains a list of all relevant vehicles, and you can use the site’s VIN lookup tool to seek out the status of your car specifically.

What makes this recall particularly interesting is that it covers a wide range of vehicles built over several generations — but crucially, not all of them. For example, the earliest vehicle with this issue is the 2003 model-year Cayenne, but some variants of the SUV through 2016 are also included. The Cayman S is on the list as well, but only the 2014 one, and no other trims.

The result is a manufacturing foul-up that transcends multiple product redesigns. How weird? I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that Porsche’s best headlights don’t share this problem. It’s just another reason the .

Regardless of the make and model of your car, it’s important to periodically check to see if your vehicle is eligible for a recall. .

This Monarch Convertible Is A Mercury By Another Name
This Monarch Convertible Is A Mercury By Another Name
Back in the late 1940s, Ford of Canada decided to invent a new automobile company name for rebadged Mercury cars. That name was Monarch, and it died twice. First, with the introduction of Edsel, FoC killed the Monarch name, but brought it back when Edsel was a flop. Then, it...

Nobody Wants John Cena's Ford GT
Nobody Wants John Cena's Ford GT
John Cena’s 2017 Ford GT, which, you’ll remember, , is up for sale for the—fourth? fifth? tenth? hard to say at this point—time, about a month after it again. Does anyone want John Cena’s Ford GT? Whether Cena could sell the car at all, of course, was the crux of...

At $7,000, Could This KA24DE-Swapped 1975 Datsun 710 Be Your Throwback Throw Down?
The seller of today’s 710 has had a dickens of a time keeping his ad up on Craigslist. It doesn’t seem to be his or the car’s fault. Maybe it’s the price? Let’s find out! I don’t know exactly when cars like yesterday’s became the poster child for the Vape...

At $9,500, Might This Small Block-Powered 1983 Porsche 944 Really Be a Big Deal?
One complaint that could be leveled at Porsche’s 944 is that it never had enough pushrods and rocker arms. Today’s ’83 addresses that dearth with an SBC. Let’s see if its price needs addressing too. I once had a boss whose mantra was ‘No bad news on Friday.’ His line...

The Mid-Engine 2001 Renault Sport Clio V6 Is Just As Unreal As You Imagine
Most of us North Americans probably only witnessed this car in video games. For many, the Renault Sport Clio V6 never actually existed outside of Gran Turismo. I mean, why would a dorky little compact car shaped like a cartoon with a V6 engine where the back seats should be...
