Range Rover has decided to kill off the in the U.S., leaving what is arguably the purest expression of a ridiculous luxury crossover with just the four-door model and, perhaps confusingly, the convertible continuing on, both of which get a new 2.0-liter four cylinder.

I love convertibles. So, in a way, forcing every fashion-forward, statement-making-lifestyle consumer into something that can drop the top and turn some heads is personally vindicating for me.

To do that, though, the 2018 Range Rover Evoque (hard-top) coupe had to go, at least in the U.S., according to and other outlets. The hard-top coupe will still live on in other markets around the globe, but it’s a sad day in the gallery of automotive curiosities on this side of the pond.

Taking Range Rover’s continually expanding lineup into consideration, including the introduction of the “coupe” this year, along with reports that Land Rover is looking into building a straight-up car (), it makes sense for there to be some cuts.

Now there’s more room for whatever other oddities Range Rover has planned. And if we get more Evoque convertibles out in the wild because of it too, well that’s just splendid.
