Renault has revealed its new KWID in India, a compact crossover that will compete in a segment that is likely to see significant growth in the coming years. The KWID will initially be offered in India later in the year and then make its way to other markets around the world – South African availability is still to be confirmed, but probably likely.
The KWID bears the name of a concept shown at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show and is the first car to be built on the brand’s new CMF-A platform. The KWID adopts the look of a hatchback along with crossover elements such as increased ride height and plastic body cladding. According to Renault, the KWID marries style, innovative features and affordability.
The Renault KWID is powered by a small 0.8-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission which Renault believes makes it “extremely well positioned in terms of fuel consumption.”
Inside, the KWID features a digital instrument cluster, chrome air vents and a MediaNAV system which offers a radio, Bluetooth and navigation via a 7-inch touchscreen.
