Rhys Millen Dominating Pikes Peak In A 1-Megawatt EV Is Strangely Serene
Rhys Millen Dominating Pikes Peak In A 1-Megawatt EV Is Strangely Serene-August 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:40

Rhys Millen and his all-electric eO PP03 set a new record at Pikes Peak this year, running to the summit in 9:07.022 and beating out Monster Tajima by over 20 seconds. But the combination of speed and silence in this on-board video of his balls-out run is downright tranquil compared to the rest of the field.

EVs are particularly well suited to the race given the fact that – unlike traditional internal combustion engines – they don’t have to worry about losing power as the altitude piles on. Miller’s car, built in Latvia and fitted with a 50 kWh lithium-ion battery, uses six electric motors – three on each axle – to put out a combined 1,368 HP and 1,593 lb-ft of torque.

That was enough for Millen to set a new record in his class, but he’s still nearly a minute off of the overall record set by Sebastian Loeb in the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak in 2013. You can check out that run below to compare and contrast the aural delights.
