Everyone’s favorite ‘Strayan F1-driving honey badger Daniel Ricciardo offered a surprise explanation for how Australians can stomach : he drank out of his friggin’ shoe on the podium. I mean, at least vegemite isn’t foot-funk. Ricciardo claims the foot-funk tastes “good.” Right.

In case you missed it, here’s the podium scene from the German Grand Prix, where Ricciardo took off his sweaty racing shoe and poured his celebratory bubbly into it for a drink after finishing second:

This perplexed the Brits commenting on the race for Sky Sports, however, they rightly assumed that it was an Aussie thing.

It’s called a “shoey,” and Ricciardo did it at Hockenheim to celebrate making it onto the podium for this 100th race. Ricciardo explained the shoey to NBCSN:

“Tastes good.” Uh-huh. Suuuuuure.

That kind of reminds me of how vegemite is usually spread in a thin layer on something else. On its own, in a spoonful, yuck. As a thin coating, it’s all right, so long as it’s not overpowering—and it takes a very thin layer to pull that off. But tasting good? Hmm. I don’t believe y’all on that, either.

Be forewarned, however, that the intoxicating combination of post-race tiredness, toejam and bubbly seems to have some, um, interesting effects:
