In 2010, supercar builder Jim Glickenhaus of bought Steve McQueen’s Hurst Baja Boot race buggy . Since then, the company has created modern, high-performance homages and will enter at least two of them in the upcoming Baja 1000 later this year.

The will have an all-terrain platform. SCG submitted completed engineering studies for approval for road use in both the U.S. and UK, reports. It’s also locked in agreements with the companies that will make the 5.0-liter V8, switchable two- and four-wheel drive, automatic transmission, HVAC systems and 20-inch travel suspension system.

The Boot will be available in either a three-seat, two-door version ($250,000) or a five-seat, four-door version ($275,000).

The images we have right now are renderings, but they still look badass. An SGC spokesperson noted that the company has started cutting suspension and chassis pieces for the first prototypes. Body molds are being made soon and the first prototypes should be testing by April or May.

The point of all this, according to SGC, is to make a street-legal SUV that can tackle something huge and daunting like the Baja 1000 and then drive home comfortably afterwards. For the race, the automaker plans to enter one factory model and one customer model at minimum.

It’s also called on Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce and Mercedes-Benz to race the Urus, Cullinan and G-Wagen in the stock SUV class with the Boot. Shots fired! We’ll see who rolls up to the starting line in November.
