Back in September, Chevy showed off the , a skid-plated-up version of the already beefy, front and rear locker-equipped . The ZR2 alone costs over $42,000, so it’s no surprise that the Bison is pushing 50.

One of the main features distinguishing the Bison from the standard ZR2 aside from the obvious CHEVROLET grille is the skid plate package, which protects the oil pan, fuel tank, transfer case, and differentials with a “hot-stamped Boron steel” plate designed by American Expedition Vehicles. You might recognize that company as the one that .

Other changes for the Bison are the steel front and rear bumpers, the latter of which have integrated recovery hooks. And there’s also the AEV wheels, the big fender flares, and the optional snorkel, which actually looks pretty badass—kind of like an arm with a flexing bicep.

Chevy and AEV announced today that all of this will cost an additional $5,750 over the standard ZR2. This brings the total price to $48,045 for the extended cab and $49,645 for the crew cab.

That makes it one of the most expensive mid-size trucks you can buy today, though it’s still well under the larger ’s base price of over $54,000. It will be interesting to see what Jeep pulls out of its pocket when it shows off .
