The 2020 GMC Sierra HD Lets You See Straight Through the Trailer You're Hauling
The 2020 GMC Sierra HD Lets You See Straight Through the Trailer You're Hauling-February 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:13:09

As we learned , the 2020 is significantly less ugly than its fraternal twin at , the , and has more cameras on board than a crowd at a Justin Timberlake concert. The cameras are fancy, too, with one letting a driver see right through whatever they’re hauling.

and its turbo-diesel trim’s 910 lb-ft of torque can tow “well in excess of 30,000 pounds,” , which hasn’t released official numbers yet. That means the truck can have a whopper of a trailer in tow, and GMC obviously wants drivers to be able to see that thing from every angle—the HD will have 15 camera views, including the “invisible” trailer one.

The trailer camera doesn’t actually make it invisible, of course, because that would be too cool and we as a human population aren’t worthy of it. It’s just a big optical illusion, showing up with an angle from a trailer-mounted camera placed inside of a tailgate-mounted view.

It’s pretty cool looking, even if—much like all of our overly filtered Instagram photos from six years ago—the colors don’t totally match up.

GMC calls the “transparent” trailer view an industry first, and says it can help while driving around parking lots, merging into traffic and making tight turns.

Some of the other 14 cameras include top-down and side shots, angles of the truck bed and camera view that can be mounted inside of whatever’s hooked up to the truck, in case you need to check and see that, yes, there’s a still random sink in the middle of your trailer, facing the wrong way and blocking the entire walking area. You just never know when that kind of thing might change.

Chevy hasn’t said much about its version of the Sierra, the new Silverado HD—short for “heavy duty,” not “hideous, dude”—yet, since it’s supposed to fully debut in February. The Silverado usually has , but, if it has anywhere close to the amount of camera views as this truck does, we can only think good thoughts for its future drivers.

What a dreadful sight to potentially have to behold from 15 different angles. May the Silverado HD have mercy on us all.

Toyota: We Try Not To Sell Trucks To Terrorists But Shit Happens
It appears that the U.S. Treasury is officially asking Toyota why their trucks keep showing up on CNN carrying ISIS radicals and machine guns all over the Middle East. Poor Toyota, all they did was make a great desert utility vehicle and the dang terrorists had to go and make...

This Hero Actually Off-Roads His Perfectly Restored Classic Toyota FJ40
Josh Commons likes his Toyota FJ40 for its unapologetically utilitarian nature. Just about every old truck fan can see the beauty in that. But what makes this one even cooler is the fact that it still gets put to work on the trail. Commons tells ; “I don’t see these...

The Trans Pacific Partnership Is A First Step To Cheap, Small Pickups In The U.S.
The landmark Trans Pacific Partnership trade agreement got signed today and it could mean the end of the most restrictive tariff in the American auto industry. But it’s only the start of a difficult and secretive process. I am talking about the , implemented by LBJ as some cold-as-ice revenge...

Ford Just Posting Pics Of Bronco-Like Off-Roader, Nothing To See Here
Ford’s chief truck communications man just coyly shared some pictures of Troller 4x4s stomping around in the Brazilian sand. To respark rumors of the Bronco’s return? Nah. Why would somebody go and do a thing like that. Anyway that’s undoubtedly what will end up happening as my Twitter blows up...

2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel: All The Right Sounds And Damn Good Numbers
2016 Chevy Colorado Diesel: All The Right Sounds And Damn Good Numbers
Here in America, “diesel pickup truck” means world-lapping longevity and enough torque to nurple Paul Bunyan. Most everywhere else, diesel trucks are simply designed for economy. The 2016 Duramax is a little bit of both, and a whole lot of awesome. (General Motors needed me to drive the diesel Colorado...

God Have Mercy The Range Rover CrossCabriolet Is Going Off-Road
Wondering if Land Rover will shill the Evoque convertible as an actual off-roader? Let yourself be baptized in the muddy puddle this hellbaby can solider through and realize; yes. “The Evoque’s capability matches its spirit of adventure,” is one of the many soundbites you’ll be treated to if you watch...
