When Chevrolet , it came with a wealth of performance figures: 3,434 pounds, 2.6 seconds to 60, and 670 horsepower out of the . One figure, though, was conspicuously absent from the deluge of data: a quarter mile time. Now, thanks to a leak on CorvetteForum, our curiosities can be laid to rest. The 2023 Corvette Z06 will run the quarter in 10.6 seconds.

The number was revealed in a photo by user Z0Sick6. The photo is of a promotional display, like you’d see in a dealer, but the combination of rubber floors on asphalt, the display next to the roped-off car, and the Volvo hauler in the background point to this being shot at a race track. My guess? It’s a pit-lane display for Chevy at Road Atlanta.

If that number sounds familiar to you, Chevy claimed the same time from the . That car, with its huge track-ready wing, needed 755 horsepower and a supercharger with more displacement than an STi’s engine to haul it down the strip in the 10s. The C8, lighter and likely aerodynamically smoother, doesn’t need any pesky breathing aids to accomplish the same feat.

For comparison, the 600-horsepower Nissan GT-R Nismo takes a to pass those 1,320 feet. BMW’s M8 Competition, faster than the ‘Vette to 60, can’t win at the drags with its 10.7-second time. A 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S does win, by half a second, and that’s with all four wheels putting its 640 horsepower to the ground for a launch.

The Z06 is, most definitely, a machine to be reckoned with. While we’re still waiting on the last big number, the cars price, it’s likely to punch well above its weight class for performance.

The Transaxle From The Porsche 550 Spyder James Dean Died In Is For Sale
The Transaxle From The Porsche 550 Spyder James Dean Died In Is For Sale
There’s always been a sort of grim fascination with cars famous people have died in; I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the 1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme that Hitler allegedly died in at least three different off-highway museums. The Porsche 550 Spyder bought by 1950s icon James Dean and named “Li’l...

The 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness Is A Compromise That Americans Will Gladly Make
The is a great idea. Subaru, the brand known for its practical, efficient-ish adventure wagons, is taking its most popular model and adapting it to cash in on the current trend toward more “rugged” SUVs. Is the Subaru Outback Wilderness edition an off-road beast? After having driven it, I...

There Is Only One 254-MPH Callaway Sledgehammer, And It's Up For Auction
The one-of-one Callaway Sledgehammer C4 Corvette was built to do two things — crack 250 mph, and not fall apart in the process. John Lingenfelter blasted past that objective on October 26, 1988, reaching 254.76 mph. Then the car sat in museums for about three decades. Now it’s up...

The 2021 Genesis G80 Is A Reminder That Luxury Doesn't Need To Come With A Hefty Price Tag—Or A Legacy Name
Oh, Genesis G80, shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? Because damn if you aren’t hot as hell, fair as a maiden, and so beautiful it can be a little hard to look at you. Not to get too Shakespearean, but this sedan is a masterclass in luxury. If...

At $9,999, Is It High Time You Buy This 2008 Chevy HHR SS?
While somewhat derided when it was new, Chevy’s HHR is a wagon that can haul, and, here in SS form, can haul ass. Today’s Heritage High Roof adds a five-speed to the fun, but is its price as high as its roof? Hi everybody! Remember me? Yep, I’m back...

A Kia Dealership Thinks Demand For The Telluride Means They Can Sell It For Nearly $80,000
The Kia Telluride (and its Hyundai Palisade cousin) have been hot sellers since their debut.. Some buyers were waiting months to get theirs because . None of that justifies dealer markups though. As (via ), one dealership thinks the Telluride is the most sought-after SUV in the world. So...
