The Audi R18 At Sebring Will Loosen Every Filling In Your Unworthy Mouth
The Audi R18 At Sebring Will Loosen Every Filling In Your Unworthy Mouth-June 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:44

Audi its LMP1-class R18 e-tron quattro at Sebring, where the surface is just old and bumpy enough to be a good, proper shakedown—and we do mean shake. Watch as the R18 skips along the surface, rattling the driver inside.

According to Marshall Pruett over at , the R18 e-tron quattro is even quicker than last year. They're running 30% less fuel on board to meet the 2015 regulations, and the car is almost two seconds faster than Audi's own no-fuel-restrictions official lap record from 2013 at the track.

Their simulations show that they would be a full five seconds under that record time if they set up the car with softer springing and damping for Sebring's bumpy surface, but none of the World Endurance Championship circuits they plan to run are anywhere near this rough. (Even Circuit de la Sarthe!)

So, they're testing the car as it will run during the races, kidney-jarring suspension and all. We hope the drivers inside aren't fond of any of their fillings and don't need to wee.

This Is What a Datsun 510 Looks Like After The Baja 1000
We’ve gotten to the point that a classic , especially the high-trim SSS, is a collector’s car to be polished and preserved. But back in 1969, Datsun ran them in the grueling Baja 1000, and here’s how beat to hell they got. At the Monterey Motorsports Reunion, I found one...

Pirelli Plans to 'Simplify' Its Plethora of Tire Names in F1 Without Actually Simplifying It
After requests from and the FIA rather than a self-realization that its abundance of F1 tire names are to figure out, said it will “simplify” its system soon. But the plan is more like a facade of simplification, which just adds another layer of confusion. Oh, well. Good try, Pirelli....

F1 Halo Praised for Protecting Charles Leclerc's Head in Scary First-Lap Crash
The Formula One has been controversial from day one, often seen as a necessary evil at best or an ugly symbol of how “soft” the inherently dangerous sport has become. It’s true that it doesn’t look great. But today at the Belgian Grand Prix, it very well may have proved...

With that it might not be able to race at the this weekend with its recent drama and new ownership, the team is now Racing Point Force India. Everyone will probably still just call it Force India, because it’s easier and sounds better. And it’s the same team. But it...

Is There A Better Nürburgring Save Than This? Probably Not
When you take part in the ’s Touristenfahrten—the open public driving days—you need to assume there’s a good chance some bad shit will happen to your car. The ‘Ring isn’t for losers, jokers, fools or the unlucky. But lucky is the only way I can describe this drive. Have you...
