The Costs of Replacing Parts on a Bugatti Veyron Are Hilarious
The Costs of Replacing Parts on a Bugatti Veyron Are Hilarious-August 2024

Sometimes, you don’t have to tell jokes to be a comedian. Just take a look at the nearest , which can’t even talk—its maintenance prices alone are enough to keep you laughing quite awhile, whether that be in total denial or in the realization that, yes, people do spend $42,000 to replace .

Supercars like the Veyron aren’t just fast and cool for a one-stop price of $1 million or so. The hits just keep on coming, like the on the Veyron due to how complex it is to carry out, and regular maintenance on the vehicle that costs about as much as the average car.

Friend of Jalopnik Bozi Tatarevic found for recently that ran down the costs of replacement parts and labor on the Veyron, and, like the Veyron itself, they’re astronomically expensive. Parts listed on the EPA documents range from $9 camshaft position sensors to a $20,000 fuel tank, but labor is where things get ugly.

Only one of the replacements on the EPA documents is less than four digits in terms of labor, with labor to replace the powertrain control module running $680. Then there’s the labor to replace the $20,000 fuel tank, which is the price of an actual car at a cool $23,000. Here’s more, from Road and Track:

The intake manifold is sold in three pieces, with the upper portions for each bank coming in at $4,000 a piece, while the lower intake manifold costs $2,000. Labor to replace it is listed as being $1,800. In comparison, , and one for something a little more common like .

The W16 engine in the Veyron is fed by four turbochargers and, unsurprisingly, they are some of the most expensive items on this parts list. According to the prices that are listed, it costs $6,400 to replace each individual turbo and the labor involved comes out to around $9,000 per pair. The total repair price? More than $21,000 per side. The turbochargers feed air to a pair of charge air coolers which each cost $9,000, and labor comes in at $2,000 per cooler. The key is to get them both replaced at the same time, because then labor for the pair drops to $2,200.

Road and Track has plenty more breakdowns of costs , in case you needed to edit your “Used Bugatti Veyron” budget list—you know, for future reference.

Why Do Brands Advertise Lease Deals For Cars That Don't Exist?
As Jalopnik’s resident car-buying expert and a professional car shopper, I get emails. Lots of emails. I’ve picked a few of your questions and will try to help out. This week we are discussing two leasing problems. The first is finding a deal for a car that doesn’t exist,...

Apparently Some Car Dealers Think It's OK To Detain Customers Against Their Will
You would think that by 2021 car dealers would have wised up and fixed the broken mess that is car shopping. Many stores have adapted, but some are still relying on classic “stealership” tricks. One of the most egregious is preventing someone from leaving the showroom. Imagine going to...

At $9,900, Could You Get Stoked About This 1995 Callaway Camaro 383 Stroker?
Today’s Callaway Camaro represents the tuner’s attempt at an à la carte car build. Let’s see if the price tag proves to be a chef’s special. How would you categorize the Italian marque Maserati? Is it a high-end sports car maker akin to Ferrari and Lamborghini? Or is it...

Someone Spent $97,000 On This Delightful 1980 Ford F-250
As you all know, I love spending inordinate amounts of time . I also look at Bring a Trailer just to see what’s out there. Usually, the auctions are for yet another boring overpriced classic, but this minty is a real gem. Honestly, I was considering dropping the platform...

At $1,600, Would You Give This 1989 Chrysler TC By Maserati The TLC It Needs?
Today’s Chrysler is probably the cheapest running car in America wearing the Maserati nameplate. It’s pretty worn, so let’s see if it’s cheap enough. There are two ways to ensure a vehicle’s rarity. One is for the manufacturer to restrict production far below demand. The other is for that...

This Slick RV Build Shows An Ingenious Way To Make A Car Hauler
A lot of gearheads dream up vehicles that can do double duty, hauling toys while also being a kick-back space. It’s the idea behind many school bus builds . But there is another, potentially easier way to get this done. How? Take an existing RV and . It’s actually...
