The Jeep Compass Is Set to Get 270 Horsepower for 2023 (UPDATE)-July 2024

2022 Jeep Compass RED edition

You won’t find much performance in the world of the compact crossover. Sure, you have outliers like the and the . But for the most part, a lot of offerings in the segment can be described as underpowered or slow. Jeep may change that for 2023, as it could drop a new turbocharged engine into its Compass, creating one of the most powerful crossovers in the segment.

Right now, the most power you can get out of a Compass is from a 2.4-liter I4 with 180 horsepower. Even if you drop nearly $40,000 for a fully loaded Compass High Altitude you’ll still only have 180 HP. Other Compass trims make do with a 177-hp version of the same engine.

Dodge’s introduction of the new crossover has changed things, though. It’s given Jeep access to the Hornet’s 2.0-liter turbocharged I4. A found on the EPA’s site confirms this new engine for 2023. It would seem that for the Hornet clone Alfa Romeo Tonale has freed up this engine for the Compass.

At 2.0 liters, it’s turbocharged and puts out 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. If you’re counting, that means the Compass is getting a 90 to 100 HP increase. Jeep has yet to release details on the ‘23 Compass, but I would assume this engine will be offered on higher trims of the crossover. Or they may surprise us and offer the engine across the entire lineup.

Jeep has finally released official details on the 2023 Compass. While it does have the new 2.0-liter engine and is available on all trims, power is rated at 200 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque, way lower than the 270 hp we thought it would have.

The other notable news is that Jeep’s Active Drive four-wheel drive system is standard across all trims. Trailhawk models get a special low ranger version with a 20:1 crawl ratio.

For $4,000, You’ll Flip Over This Reliant
Schoolhouse Rock once espoused that three is a magic number. And while that hipster edutainment series never expanded the concept past basic math, today's Reliant can, because it's magically threelicious. Fake, phony, poseur, fraud, gonif; all good choices for vanity plates to be affixed to yesterday's , which, while it...

Only 122 real 365 GTS/4 Spiders were ever built and they now regularly command upwards of a million bucks. Today's McBurnie-built Faux-rrari is only thirty five grand, but it still looks like a million. When I was a kid, one of my favorite 1/24 scale models was Monogram's , a...

Tastes great, less filling, peace without compromise, there's plenty of have-it-all maxims. And for today's , you can add the Bugus to that list. What, you might ask, is the Bugus? Well, let's start with what the Bugus is not: It isn't a mobile version of a Roach Motel, it's...

Call 411 on your phone and you'll get Information. That might be helpful as the first question that springs to mind about today's Olds 455-powered 411 is WTF?! Beaded seat covers, along with the unavoidable presence that only an impressively large car, or a trail of used TP stuck to...

For $15,995, It’s the Falcon and the Blowman
The Peregrine Falcon is considered to be the World's fastest animal, with a diving speed of over 200 mph. Today's Ford Falcon won't do that, but then again, have you ever seen a Peregrine topless? At the dawn of the sixties, the major American manufacturers all began introducing smaller, more...

The Current Lincoln Town Car is not long for this world, and its styling wasn't all that elegant to begin with. Today's '89 however is sharp enough that you could cut a line with it. You probably wouldn't want to be reliant on yesterday's to get you anywhere in one...
