Mitsuoka rules. Yes, that , the one that made the and the , rules. The company may have been ragged on for those models, but since refocusing on car designs from the ’60s and ’70s its begun making some beautiful machines. We now have the and the , but the company’s latest model may be its most interesting: A Challenger-styled Civic.

The M55 is, in some ways, a departure for Mitsuoka. The Rock Star turned a modern two-seat roadster into a classic two-seat roadster, and the Buddy turned a modern family hauler into a retro one. The M55, though, turns a hatchback into a classic coupe — crossing not only year, but body styles.

Somehow, though, it works. The M55 doesn’t look exactly like a Challenger, but instead draws inspiration from that bit of classic American muscle for its liftback look. What could otherwise have been a discordant mix of sharp edges and rounded curves becomes something streamlined and aesthetically appealing.

, and an M55 in Si trim would be an absolute riot to bring to any local Cars and Coffee. Put this kit on a Type R, though, and you’ll have me begging you to let me drive it. Can you imagine rolling up to a classic muscle meet in what appears to be a kit car, then smoking those emissions-choked Hemis off the line with front-wheel-drive power?

I want a Mitsuoka M55. I’m going to dream about this car, I’ll put a photo of it in a locket that I carry around with me like a lost love. It’s just weird enough, jut vintage enough, but retains all those modern features that make me love the current Civic. The seats have to go, though. My eventual M55 will be getting Brides on day one.

If you’ve ever thought that you oughta’ boughta’ Miata, then perhaps today’s rotary roadster will be the catalyst that makes you finally pull the trigger. That is of course if its price doesn’t blow it. I think we can all agree that it’s the pop-up headlights of the first generation...

The embargo on reviews of the all-new lifted last night and so the web is teeming with takes on Jaguar's first proper two-seat sports car in decades. And guess what? It turns out it's pretty great. Praise was heaped on its power, looks and exhaust note, but the car was...

The 97-Month Car Loan Is The Craziest New Car-Buying Trend
Some good news and bad news on the car-buying front. The good news is that the American economy has improved to the point where credit is much more readily available than it was a few years ago, so people have an easier time financing cars. The bad news is that...

For $17,700, Skate Into Great
There’s a pearl of wisdom that goes, if you want something done right, y’all gotta' git-r-done yourself. The creator of today’s Maxton Rollerskate did it himself, but will its current price prove to have been done right as well? Peanut butter in your chocolate, peas in your carrots, , some...

For $3,495, Gain A Sterling Reputation
Imagine if you will Japanese mechanical reliability mated to veddy British sense and sensibility. Okay, now imagine owning today’s 1989 Sterling 827SLi, because that’s just what it aspired to provide. Sure, it failed to do so, but perhaps this one’s price will provide some value. So far this week we’ve...
