The NIU Twin-Battery E-Bike: What Do You Want to Know?
The NIU Twin-Battery E-Bike: What Do You Want to Know?-August 2024

A photo of a man riding an NIU E Bike.

Electric bikes have come a long way in recent years, with that was once reserved for the professionals. But one aspect that many people still worry . To counter this, Chinese mobility company NIU has fitted its first e-bike with two batteries to give it up to 90 miles of range, and we’re going to put that to the test.

, this electric bike has been assembled by NIU, which made a name for itself building affordable electric scooters and mopeds. Now, it’s put everything it learned so far into an e-bike.

Retailing for $1,999, the bike isn’t at the bottom end of the e-bike price war, but it’s also a far cry from . This means its probably a good entry point for some looking to dip a toe into electric bikes.

And from the outside, it sounds like an appealing option. It has two 460 Wh batteries that both slot nicely into the frame;these then both work to power the bike’s Bafang-sourced hub motor without the need to switch between them while riding.

Away from that electrical power, the bike comes with a belt drive in place of a traditional chain, which could make it easier for some newcomers to keep on top of maintenance. It also has a pair of mechanical disc brakes, and built-in lights at the front and rear. , there’s also a bright screen mounted on the handlebars and a small control panel to turn it on and shift through the modes.

I’ll be to see if it’s a good way to commute into work, travel ‘round town or head out along the river to soak up the countryside views. But before I head out on all these adventures, I want to know what you’d like to find out about this bike?

Listen To The F-16 Viper's Beautiful Sounding Start-Up Sequence
I'm a sucker for the sounds of aircraft powering up. Each has its own unique crescendo of clicks, grunts, and hisses. The F-15 sounds like a howling wolf stirring to life. The S-3 Viking's womp womp womp is notorious. But the F-16 has a distinct, rolling chorus that begins by...

Watch This Award-Winning Rider With Tourette's Do A Five-Mile Wheelie
Jeremy Stenberg is a certifiable badass. He's motocross royalty, with dozens of wins, regular TV appearances, and even an app. Most people know him as "Twitch", a nickname he embraced after being diagnosed with Tourette's. But none of that matters, because he just did a 5-mile wheelie without even trying....

This Beloved Carrier Captain Has A Great Shtick
We've all had terrible bosses. The worst part about them is watching their bad attitude flow down to lower ranks. It's like putting a leaky can of bleach above a bread rack, over time it all gets tainted. Capt. Thomas Parker was not one of those bosses. He clearly loved...

Good God The Ducati Scrambler Sounds Amazing
There was never any doubt the was going to sound good. It's using a variant of the same V-twin as the old Monster 796, which always delivered an unmistakable Italian aria once it was uncorked. But nothing prepared us for the aural delights of the new Duc with its first...

Hell Yes KTM Is Planning New Mid-Size V-Twins
KTM has been kicking ass on both ends of the engine displacement spectrum, but like the rest of the industry, something's been missing – mid-size V-twins. KTM is finally rectifying matters and spreading the wealth to its siblings at Husqvarna. , KTM head Stefan Pierer said, "We will have a...

Hells Angels Buy Every Bike From One Walmart, Donate Them To Charity
When you think of huggable and lovable, the first thing that should come to mind are the Hells Angels. On Black Friday, Hells Angels took over a Walmart. But instead of doing what you'd expect a group the US government deems an "organized crime syndicate" to do, they bought all...
