This is the Dragon's Fyre Jet Truck, a 1940 Ford strapped to a General Electric J-85 after-burning turbo jet engine. Here's what it looks like charging toward you at full-tilt.

Of course the truck has little in common with the eighty-year-old vehicle on which it's vaguely based. The race rig is stretched to 17' in length, weighs 1,550 pounds and generates "about 6,000 pounds of thrust" drinking Kerosene or Jet A fuel at a rate of two gallons per second.

The thing kicks out 40-foot flames when driver and owner David G. Modder gets on the throttle. Here it is in action, and all its glory:

Aside from racing insane drag trucks, Modder has a day job as an airline pilot. He spends the rest of his time as a volunteer firefighter for Randall Township Fire Department in Kenosha County. He's been involved in firefighting since the mid 1980's, and has now partnered with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) to use Dragon's Fyre to raise awareness for everything the organization stands for.

The Foundation's mission is to "honor the fallen, offer support to their families and help reduce firefighter line-of-duty injuries and deaths each year," in the words of executive director Chief Ron Siarnicki.

"The generous support provided through this partnership will help the foundation continue providing valuable resources to the survivors of the fallen and the fire service," said Siarnicki.
