The Replica Ferrari Modena GT Spyder California From Ferris Bueller's Day Off Is Going to Auction (Updated)
The Replica Ferrari Modena GT Spyder California From Ferris Bueller's Day Off Is Going to Auction (Updated)-November 2024

Heads up, eighties film fans: the car from one of the most iconic movies of the decade is going up for auction, and you could be the next lucky owner. That’s right. The not-really-a-Ferrari GT California from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off can be your love and your passion, too.

If you happen to find yourself at the Monterey auction on August 23-25, the ‘85 Modena is going up for sale. You can check out the listing on . Yes, this is most definitely 100 percent one of the cars used in the film. There were only three of these featured in Ferris Bueller, one of which doesn’t run. This, my friends, is one that does.

But as everyone knows, it’s not a real Ferrari: describes it as a tubeframe job wearing a fiberglass shell with a Ford small-block V8 under the hood. That’s why it’s listed as a 1985 Modena GT Spyder California and not, you know, a 1961.

Even if it’s not real, it looks and sounds beautiful. If you want to see it in action yourself, on YouTube went over to check it out in person, and it’s a damn interesting video. Live vicariously through the video’s host as you dip under the hood and go for a spin.

As they mention, you’re not only getting a beautiful car with a mere 1520 miles on it and a place in the Smithsonian Historical Vehicle Association Hall of Fame, but it’s coming loaded with movie memorabilia, too. The car is estimated to sell for $250,000-300,000. Forget that house you were looking at; this is way more important.

If you do head out to the auction and bring this bad boy home, just make sure you lock up your garage when you get back.

As several of you pointed out, our gasoline-addled brains failed to mention that the movie car is not in fact a real Ferrari, but famously a replica. But it’s still neat and fun, so we hope it goes to a good home.

2009 Honda Pilot, Part Three
You have kids and take them places. Those places include bulk discount stores, the mountains, the beach, Home Depot and lacrosse practice. The utility in SUV appeals more than the style or image. You find the prospect of carrying sheets of plywood bizarrely intriguing. You need to tow, but don't...

2008 Honda Accord Coupe, Part Three
You've always bought Accords and the will merely be the latest. You don't know much about cars but you do know that you don't want to buy American. You fit the above criteria, but despite the physical onset of middle age you think you're too young for a four door....

2008 Suzuki Swift: Around The Block
When we found out Suzuki had an event with a Euro-only just a short distance from Chicago we jumped at the chance to take it for a quick spin. A volume seller in Europe, Asia and other markets, the Swift has a mostly inglorious past here in the states as...

2008 Mazda RX-8, Part Two
The shows all sorts of pleasing shapes amidst all of that strong idiosyncrasy. It's good clean fun to look at the profile of the front fenders rising slightly above the curve of the hood while you're driving. Molded-in Wankelry on the hood flows nicely into subtle twin speed bumps on...

2009 Honda Pilot, Part Two
The nicely embodies traditional SUV themes in a package that looks more compact than it actually is and manages to convey an approachability and friendliness lacking in its competitors. Shame it's just a little boring. Everything a family needs and more laid out in an intuitive but very buttony way....

2008 Mazda RX-8, Part One
I'm going to go ahead and hazard a marketing-based guess that the good folks at Mazda want me to think of the 40th Anniversary Edition as the culmination of their design and engineering genius. Unfortunately, the first thing going through my mind was that the suicide-doored, rotary-engined little 2+2 is...
