The Ten Best F-111 "Pig" Dump And Burn Moments Of All Time!
The Ten Best F-111 "Pig" Dump And Burn Moments Of All Time!-November 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:14:29

The also known as the "The Pig," served for thirty years in USAF service, and with the Royal Australian Air Force for over a decade more, with the type finally being retired in 2010. One of the things missed the most about the swing-winged Pig is its incredible ability to set the sky ablaze.

The "Dump & Burn" as it is known (other names include the "Zippo" and the "Torch") is a relatively simple operation. The F-111's fuel dump is located right between its turbofan engines, and if the jet's afterburners are engaged while the fuel is being dumped it will ignite starting at about five feet behind the aircraft. The resulting fiery spectacle was widely denounced by the USAF but became something of a source of national pride for the Australians, and the F-111's flame throwing ability was displayed at national events as well as air shows around the country and the region.

So without further adieu, these are the ten greatest "dump and burns" ever caught on camera!:

Someone Finally Put Wood Grain On A Motorcycle And It Looks Awesome
Someone Finally Put Wood Grain On A Motorcycle And It Looks Awesome
Retro styling is in motorcycles right now, but I think Yamaha’s Resonator125 concept might be the first one brave enough to go for actual wood-inlaid-on-chrome. Classy or too far? Don’t be so quick to dismiss it as “just another café racer,” even though that look is still alive and well...

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's U.S. Carrier Visit Signifies A New Age For Japan's Military Doctrine
History was made yesterday as Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited the USS Ronald Reagan during Japan’s massive Maritime Self-Defense Force Fleet Review exercise. It was the first time a Japanese Prime Minister had visited a U.S. aircraft carrier at sea, and is yet another sign of Japan’s changing military...

This Yamaha Electric Motorcycle Concept Is Two Wheel Drive
Yamaha may not have a supercharged or turbocharged motorcycle to show at this year’s bike shows, but this PES2 Electric Concept certainly isn’t lacking in the cool department. Yamaha released the PES1 and PED1 concepts back in 2013, with grand claims about bringing an electric motorcycle to market by 2016....

The F-4 Phantom's Manufacturer Wanted To Give It Swing-Wings
McDonnell Aircraft Corporation’s F-4 Phantom was quickly becoming the do-all fighter by the mid 1960s, able to lug thousands of pounds of bombs on one mission and then strictly air-to-air missiles the next. The potential for evolving the already successful Phantom became especially attractive as high-end combat aircraft programs of...

Electric Motorcycling Just Took A Massive Leap Forward
Electric Motorcycling Just Took A Massive Leap Forward
Zero Motorcycles came out swinging this year, with two new motorcycles and a whole suite of updated technologies. For the first time in my life, I can say that the want to ride an electric bike (that isn’t an electric super bike) is stroooooong. Before we jump into the new...
