There Are Way More Racing Anime Series To Watch Than Just Initial D-August 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:20

We get it: you’ve seen every stage of Initial D 42 times and can quote it ad nauseum with the best of ‘em, but there’s far more racing anime than just one series. If you’re short on things to watch, Donut Media put together a list of their ten favorite racing animes—including a few I’ve never heard of before.

Donut’s favorites include both series so focused on realism that they recorded real sounds for the cars as well as futuristic, dystopian fantasies. And of course, it’s not all about underground street racing—there’s anime about Formula One, rallying, and karting on the list.

Sure, there’s a few more popular ones in here (and it’s not hard to guess which anime makes number one), but they go deeper back in the catalog than just Mach GoGoGo (aka Speed Racer) and Wangan Midnight. In other words, it looks like I need to spend a few weekends this offseason binge-watching F and Goddamn.

Any F1 anime that thinks to include a six-wheeled car () has to be pretty sweet.

What are your favorites?

You don’t know what Indy means. I lost track of the number of times I saw that phrase on a t-shirt, coozie, or cooler as I wandered around the during the 2022 race weekend. It’s a phrase that used to make me roll my eyes, that still makes my...
