These Are The 2018 Cars Consumer Reports Says Will Make It Over 200,000 Miles-July 2024

While leasing is more popular than ever these days, a lot of people still want to buy new cars for the long haul. If you’re planning on getting a new 2018 model year car that you hope to have a long and fulfilling relationship with, has a few that should be on your shopping list—though none of them are terribly surprising.

Were you expecting a list full of Hondas and Toyotas and maybe a Ford F-150? It seems your predictive powers are on point. Here’s the list of long-lasting 2018 vehicles they suggest:

Toyota Camry

Honda Accord

Toyota Prius

Honda CR-V

Toyota Sienna

Honda Civic

Toyota Corolla

Toyota 4Runner

Toyota Highlander

Ford F-150

As for the methodology behind this list, CR explains:

The analysis compensates for the popularity of cars among CR members. Simply put, these are the most problem-free cars that have proved to go the distance. Many other models in our survey have made it to 200,000 miles, but they required significant repairs to get there in the past year.

The cars that shined in this analysis would be considered at this point. To help new-car shoppers, we have highlighted the latest model years below.

Given that we’re looking at a long span of years for this analysis, be aware that , , and other ratings vary over time.

Now the big variable in all of this is the fact that many of these 2018 cars have advanced electronic features and new turbocharged motors that were not present in previous model years. So there isn’t specific data as to how those newer, more complex components will hold up over time. For example, the drops the V6 and naturally aspirated four-cylinder engines for two available turbocharged four-cylinder engines. Time will tell how these turbo motors hold up.

Still, the main conclusion is that if Honda, Toyota and Ford Trucks have been building reliable vehicles for a long time, there is a good reason to believe the current crop will last as well.

Of course, our friends at Consumer Reports are quick to point out that reliability is only as good as the regular maintenance, and just because a car is built to last doesn’t mean the owner can forget about routine things like oil changes, tune-ups, and replacing wear-and-tear items.

For those of you who love a good car-found-in-a-field story, have I got the mother lode for you. It involves roughly 10 Alfa Romeos in rough shape, truth be told. But they’re in Texas and they’re calling out to you. Do you hear them? Do you hear them calling...

At $8,750, Is This 2009 Audi Q7 TDI S-Line A Bargain Hauler?
With a massive 406 lb-ft of torque and AWD, today’s Q7 rivals many more traditional trucks in its towing capacity. Let’s see if its price could haul in a buyer as well. Do you watch those reality TV shows? I don’t. Reality’s crazy enough as it is that I...

Lack Of Parking Is The Only Reason I Haven’t Bought A Pontiac Fiero
I have almost bought a Pontiac Fiero more times than I can remember, and the reason I never do is always the same. I talk myself into it, I get all jazzed up about getting the ‘88 V6 five-speed that is the only worthwhile Fiero configuration, and then I...

The 2020 Audi A6 Allroad Wags On In America For $66,895
We’ve been really loud advocates of Audi keeping wagons in America, but now it’s time for everyone to swallow the pill that hurts going down, which is how much these things actually cost. The will start at $66,895. The Allroad is back, for now, featuring air suspension just like...

Could $6,999 For This Amazingly Clean 1988 Ford Tempo AWD Be Music To Your Ears?
Could $6,999 For This Amazingly Clean 1988 Ford Tempo AWD Be Music To Your Ears?
It is unlikely you will find a cleaner example of Ford’s ‘80s AWD sedan than today’s Tempo at any price. The question is, should you go looking at all? So I’ve decided that I desperately want one of those life-like infant dolls like the one in the new Apple...

Why The 2019 Subaru Forester May Be The Perfect Family Car
Why The 2019 Subaru Forester May Be The Perfect Family Car
The redesigned-for- doesn’t top the charts at any one thing. But it does do a lot of things reasonably well, including serving as a capable, reasonably-priced family hauler. ( Subaru let me borrow a Subaru Forester Sport for a week, and dropped it off at my house with a...
