This AE86 VS. Honda Civic Battle Is The Best Race I've Seen In Forever
This AE86 VS. Honda Civic Battle Is The Best Race I've Seen In Forever-May 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:25

Man, forget NASCAR and its . Forget Formula One and how . The only racing I want to watch is Australia’s Improved Production Car Championship, and this wacky Honda Civic vs. Toyota AE86 battle is the best thing I’ve seen on track in forever.

I’ll be honest: I had no idea this series even existed until I saw it on a cursory browse of this morning. It is what its name implies: an Aussie series for modified road cars, divided up by engine sizes. This particular race was ahead of last weekend’s Adelaide Clipsal 500 V8 Supercars race, which explains why it was on Fox Sports down there.

This particular clip shows one hell of a dogfight between the rear-drive Toyota AE86 Corolla and a front-drive Honda Civic, both small-wheelbase cars with similarly sized naturally aspirated engines. They’re pretty evenly matched throughout the race, and there’s a ton of back and forth until the end when the Hachiroku takes the checkered flag. It’s like Initial D, but in real life, on a track, with Australians.

Alas, not everyone fares well out there:

This is the only racing I wish to watch from now on, please and thank you.

Sometimes In Life You Have To Take A Race Car Into A Drive-Thru
Sometimes In Life You Have To Take A Race Car Into A Drive-Thru
“Is that a stock car?” the Tim Hortons server asked, which seemed a perfectly reasonable thing to say when a race car comes to a drive-thru in Kentucky. The little rally 944 wasn’t, but it was thoroughly awesome to make his day, regardless. I just spent my vacation on the...

NASCAR Just Made It Way Easier For Drivers To Wreck Each Other Out Of A Race

Like an impending dentist appointment on the calendar, I’ve been trying to forget about NASCAR’s to its race day format. If I don’t think about it, maybe it will go away! But no, it’s become all too real now: NASCAR has announced how they’re chopping the Daytona 500 into three...

Listen To The V8-Powered BMW Z4 GT3 And Help Yourself Forget
Back in 2010, BMW decided that what made the most sense for its production-based racing program was to run its sporty Z4 roadster. The problem was it only had a weak straight six engine, while BMW had a perfectly good V8 it had been racing for a few years. So...
