This Custom 1985 Nissan 300ZX Lets It All Hang Out for $1,900.-May 2024

X, Y, and Z are the last letters in the English alphabet. In contrast, today's custom Nissan is first and foremost a ZX, and it may come with a price that will have you asking why not.

There are things that just don't belong together. Among those are square pegs in round holes, cats and dogs, and the NFL commissioner and the immediate need to defuse a ticking time bomb. It's open to debate that you might want to add yesterday's to that list, but at $27,000, at least 64% of you thought the car and its price went together like Betty and Barney.

Today's Nice Price or Crack Pipe car is called SNIPER. That's owed to its being an S 2000 with a…

It's shocking - shocking I tell you - that fans of the Datsun/Nissan Z series had to wait 23 years from its introduction for a factory convertible version to hit the market. Wind in the hair, FTW! That 1993 300ZX offered a sizable roll hoop and questionable aesthetics when its cap was on. It also came in at a substantial 3,432 pounds, making it the most lugubrious 2-seater Z car on the books.

Some people couldn't wait that long or for something so heavy, and lacking any sense of precognition never even knew the Z32 would one day doff its top. For those folks, the aftermarket spoke and it said, here, have this Z31 with a soft top, it's pretty damn good looking and it'll make your hair a mess, just as you like it.

This looks to be one of the . We had one of those , but for a lot more cash. Just to recap, the first of these was commissioned by Motor Trend because that's how they rolled back in the day. The result was such a hit that R. Straman built about 350 more, most all of which were sold as special orders through Nissan dealers.

There's no word on this one's provenance, and in fact pretty much nothing of note revealed in the ad other than that it has 185,000 miles, a five-speed, and ice, ice, baby A/C. The bodywork looks to be in pretty solid shape, based on the limited number of snapshots, and the top appears intact.

There are no interior shots, but you do get to peer under the hood, where sits the venerable VG30E, the first in the line of V6s to power Nissan's sports car. That's 2,960-ccs and, from the factory, 160-bhp. This one looks... okay, but oddly appears lacking its A/C compressor belt. Maybe it just blows?

This custom ZX is offered in Pompano Beach Florida, so you know there's something wacky about it because, well, Florida. It's also being offered for $1,900. That's pretty cheap for a car that moves under it's own power, and perhaps really cheap for a one of 350 customs from a reputable customizer.

Or is it? That's what we're here to find out. What do you think about $1,900 for this 1985 ZX and its dropping top? Is that price a good deal? Or, is this that too much of a strain for this Straman?

You decide!

Pompano Beach , or go if the ad disappears.
