This Is How You Buy A German Luxury Sedan
This Is How You Buy A German Luxury Sedan-October 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:13:45

I used to think the Mercedes CLA250 was a fairly unique car. Then I visited a local town at the Jersey shore and saw a half dozen of them within 5 minutes. Now if you wanted a Mercedes with some real street presence, you could spend a fraction the price of a CLA on 280SE.

This car is not is not for the young professional who simply wants to fit-in with the other luxury lessees. With a starting bid of only $3,383 this Mercedes is for someone who wants to step back in time and grab a piece of German automobile history. Despite the fact that this car is over 40 years old, it only has 22,350 miles, but it does have a few minor issues.

Here are the details -

An original but at some point of time repainted Champaign color which is fading now. Interior is in excellent shape with minor defects. some damage to the headliner in the rear please See pictures. Dash Wood is in excellent used condition. Original Becker radio with cassette player working as it should, power antenna is inoperative. shifter on the column. Power door locks function.power windows work on rear windows flawlessly, The front passenger power window is inoperative and driver side works but it stutters. This car sat in a garage for many years. Original California blue plates still with the car. even the gas-cap door handle is there! The engine fires up first time no smoke. Transmission shifts through all gears, Steering wheel was replaced with a newer model by Mercedes benz classic center in Irvine at a cost of $832.50 last june. the Horn works. The undercarriage is rust free and dry. There is a rust spot on right front fender see pictures.

So this big Benz with its classic V8 won't come close to 34 mpg of the CLA nor will you get Bluetooth, navigation, heated seats, or any other gizmos and gadgets you expect from a luxury car. But for under 5 grand you will get class, style, and an over-engineered piece of rolling luxury that will give you respect from both hipsters and auto-historians.

This Guy's Car Fetish Is So Normal It's Actually Pretty Weird
Like so many of us, Tyson Hugie dreamed of one day owning a very specific car collection. Classic 4x4s? European sports cars? Nah, man—early 90’s Acuras. It doesn’t sound too intrinsically exciting, but looking at this fleet. I think he might actually be on to something here. Hugie reached out...

These Mad Geniuses Are Doing A Car Build Show You Will Actually Want to Watch
Do ? Are they too heavy on drama without enough actual building for you? Do you find yourself more interested the actual fabrication than the fabricated drama between mechanics or cast members? Do you wonder how Richard Rawlings gets any work done with all those rings? Well, two Brits are...

Getting Drunk Could Save Your Life From Automotive Fluid Poisoning
If, for whatever reason, you just sucked down a quart of DOT 3 brake fluid, windshield washer fluid or antifreeze, get your butt to the hospital right away. But if you can’t get to the hospital quickly, it may be time to break out the booze. We’ve probably all heard...

Here's What The Inside Of A Neglected World War II Jeep Engine Looks Like
I just yanked the engine out of my 1948 Willys CJ-2A; here’s a look at the innards of that old cast iron hulk called the “Go Devil” that powered America’s troops through World War II. The Go Devil engine is a 134-cubic inch, cast-iron flathead inline four found in World...

Welcome To My Favorite Time-Wasting Car Website, ScuderiaCarParts.com
Like you, I often harbor idle dreams of one day owning a Ferrari. For reasons obvious to anyone who has seen the state of my apartment, this is never going to happen. Still, I like to dream, and one website supports my fantasies: . The fun thing about ScuderiaCarParts.com is...

Here's How Much It Really Costs To Own A 20-Year-Old BMW M3
Everyone dreams of buying that childhood dream car for cheap on Craigslist through the magical power of depreciation. But as we’ve seen time and time again, purchase price is only one small part of the equation. One of my favorite car-related video series this year has been fromCarThrottle, wherehost Alex...
