This Manual 1993 BMW 525i Wagon Actually Has a V12 From an 8 Series
This Manual 1993 BMW 525i Wagon Actually Has a V12 From an 8 Series-July 2024

By this point, I’m sure you can tell what’s Jalop-bait and what’s not. The car’s gotta have a manual and generally be a wagon, at the very least. If you can throw a spin on it, even better. And this 1993 BMW 525i that popped up on Craigslist is the closest to that car I’ve seen in a while, namely because it has a V12 engine from an 8 Series—and a bunch of other parts from BMW’s big fancy ’90s coupe.

“1993 BMW 525i body sitting on a mid-90s BMW 850Ci chassis,” reads (). “It goes like this. The ultimate sleeper. Lowered, garage kept, never driven in winter during my ownership. 850Ci V12 motor (and uses them all). 850Ci six-speed manual transmission, driveline and rear end. 850Ci brakes and suspension.”

I reached out to the seller and he responded that this was not a modification he performed himself. It was apparently a purpose-built car that “came out of a renowned BMW performance shop in the Midwest.”

He alleged that the original 1994 850Ci had flipped in a wreck and was salvaged. The body was destroyed but all the mechanicals were “perfect” and that “it was a small leap to build an ultimate BMW wagon sleeper” with those parts.

After about two years of ownership, the owner is ready to let it go. His price? $17,000, at the time of this writing.

But he’s willing to trade for one of the following:

2014 Cadillac CTS 3.6 AWD wagonLate-model Jeep Rubicon 4x4 gas or dieselPossible late-model diesel station wagon Mercedes Sprinter Van 172-inch wheelbase, extra high roof2006 to 2010 Chevy Silverado 2500/3500 HD diesel crew cab long bed and less than 200,000 miles4x4 tractor with front bucketPolaris side-by-side UTV

What do you think? Is this the Jalop-Radwood BMW Unicorn Wagon of your wildest dreams? Or something you should run from?

The 301 HP 2020 Mini JCW Countryman Proves More Power Fixes Almost Anything
The 301 HP 2020 Mini JCW Countryman Proves More Power Fixes Almost Anything
When the crossover first appeared almost a decade ago, I remember thinking it would be a failure. After all, by definition, a crossover—something big—is like the Anti-Christ to Mini’s rabid fanbase. Yet the Countryman ended up doing more than alright for Mini, with over 160,000 units sold in the U.S....

At $18,700, Could This 1977 Ford Mustang II Prove An Electrifying Deal?
With the debut of the Mach-E taking the Mustang brand in unfamiliar directions, now’s a good time to look back on another pony that flouted tradition. Today’s Mustang II represents the most vilified of editions—at least so far. Let’s see if it, and its price, are really all that...

At $4,700, Could This 2007 Saab 9-3 SportCombi Aero Be The Swede You Need?
How many ponies do you think is too many to route through a car’s front wheels? Today’s Saab is claimed to rock around 350 horses and is FWD. Let’s see if that’s over the limit and whether its price is too. There are a handful of vehicles that, if...

The Only Way For Long-Term Electric Car Sales To Work Is To Do What The Communists Did
I saw documenting how , a Southern California car shuttle service that only operates Teslas, has some of the highest-mileage Teslas in the world, with many having over 300,000 miles on the clock. The important part here, though, is that maintenance-wise, the cars are doing fantastic, way better than...

The seller of today’s E55 AMG offers to let you bring a mechanic round to check it out. Let’s see if its price demands you also bring along your accountant. There’s a question that pops up perennially on Reddit that asks if you could bring back one extinct animal...

My Halloween Road Trip In A 797-HP Challenger Redeye Got Real Spooky
Deep within the dark and wild forests of New England, an ancient beast awakens. Its fierce growl unmistakable, it emerges from the mist-heavy woods hungry, searching for fuel for its infernal heart below cold, indifferent stars. This Lovecraftian monster wasn’t something out of myth and lore, but a 2019...
