All-electric semis won’t have the capacity to make a single trek at lengths comparable to diesel rigs, but the technology presents a lot of opportunities for shorter distance routes. Tesla it wants the semis to “deliver a substantial reduction in the cost of cargo transport, while increasing safety and making it really fun to operate.” The truck is expected to possess some semi-autonomous functionality, and it’ll be capable of traveling 200 to 300 miles on a single charge.
