This Stop-Motion Video Of A Guy Fixing His Range Rover's Rusted-Out Body Is Mesmerizing-June 2024

Of all automobile disciplines, bodywork is by far the most intimidating to me. It requires a refined touch that I just don’t have (yet), which is why this stop-motion video of a man repairing all the rust on his old Range Rover is so fascinating.

“” my coworker Andrew Collins wrote when we introduced George Karellas’ YouTube series “Soup.” And Andrew was totally right, because the channel, , just posted a video titled “How I restored a Classic Range Rover and saved it from the junkyard,” and my god is it stunning.

Watch how Karellas cuts the rot out of his 1991 Range Rover Vogue SE, makes patches out of new steel, welds it into place, grinds down the welds, and paints over everything until it all looks factory-fresh.

Though the video includes suspension and brake work, as well as a number of other repairs, what makes this production special is that it lets you watch from a first-person perspective as complex(ish) pieces of rusted-out steel get hacked out and the body is returned to factory-fresh form. The whole thing is far more entertaining than I thought possible:

This project apparently took Karellas three years, and he’s posted a number of videos on his that include narration of all the fabrication. The video above appears to splice those videos together so you can see the full job in one place with very little narration—just some light music so that you can just gaze at the work as it mesmerizes you into killing nearly 90 minutes of your day.

But it’s worth it. Trust me.

My $500 Postal Jeep Made It 1,000 Miles to Kansas but I'm Scared of the Rocky Mountains
The Rockies are coming, and I’m worried. Driving my —a vehicle that I found with a weak pulse and then nursed back to life—on flat roads is one thing, but trying to ascend and descend steep, long grades will challenge this 1976 postal Jeep in ways it’s likely never...

My $500 Postal Jeep Triumphantly Arrives in Moab After a Grueling 1,800-Mile Journey
“It’s too far gone,” the unbelievers said. “It cannot be saved.”—the $500 postal Jeep that at the time had a two-foot rust hole in its frame and a cracked engine—was met with plenty of doubt from the beginning. And people were right to be skeptical, but after intense wrenching...

My $500 Postal Jeep Has Been Stuck in a Colorado Days Inn Parking Lot For Two Days
I haven’t written an update on —my rusty, junkyard-grade $500 postal Jeep—since , because driving the Jeep drains me to no end, and more importantly, the vehicle has been broken for two days, and my brothers and I have been running around trying to fix it. Once I nurse...

The First Ridiculous Failure on the Yugo Just Happened
I suppose after making the , I had sort of managed to convince myself that, incredibly, this old, free Yugoslavian shitbox was, somehow, a reliable and useful little car. I mean, I still think it is surprisingly tough for what it is, but I may have gotten overconfident about...

My $500 Postal Jeep Made It 400 Miles to Illinois but It Was Truly Miserable

Ambitious Mechanics Try, Fail to Make Nissan VQ Engine Actually Sound Good For Once
The and are probably the best beginner drift cars a person can buy, in the States at least. Cheap, not too old, with plenty of power from the VQ-series Nissan V6. That’s the problem though. These all have VQs, and they sound notoriously awful. Please enjoy as the Hoonigans...
