Traffic Jams: Chastity Belt - 'James Dean'
Traffic Jams: Chastity Belt - 'James Dean'-April 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:12:04

I’ve been in a musical slump lately when it comes to finding new things to listen to, which means I’ve turned back to my playlists from 2016 and 2017 to revel in the comfort of my favorite music from college. And now we’re here, back in the land of Chastity Belt, one of my favorite all-woman acts.

No Regerts is yet another one of those albums that in my eyes, falls into the “first album, best album” category. It’s just one banger after another, with deep longing knitted in alongside cheap beer humor, which is an apt summation of my entire personality. As one Pitchfork reviewer noted, the album is about “how dumb the objects of your sexual desire can be; which parties suck, because of whom and what can be done about it; fucking and drugs, and how great and lousy both make you feel; the regressive fun to be had shouting the word ‘vagina.’” That about sums it up.

“James Dean” was the first Chastity Belt song to pop up on my Spotify Discover, so it always has a place in my heart. I remember singing along to this bad boy live during South by Southwest like my life depended on it, despite the fact that I was essentially a bored child with little life experience. Now I am a bored adult with little life experience, and I still vibe with the whole album. At the very least, it’s good for sweltering summer days and not-cold-enough cheap beer — and we’ve got plenty of both of those things here in Texas right now.

Horrifying Crash In Kansas Sees Car Split Down The Middle
Horrifying Crash In Kansas Sees Car Split Down The Middle
A single-car crash in Kansas this weekend has provided one of the most horrifying accident images of the year, which you can see in the screenshot heading up this story. What you’re seeing isn’t two cars. That is a single vehicle that was rent apart so violently it shaved...

Watch This Glickenhaus 004S Crash So Others Can Live
Crash testing is a natural part of a car’s life story. In order to sell these cars to regular humans, it has to be safe for humans in an accident—but there’s always something especially painful about watching prototype hypercars from a boutique manufacturer go through routine crash testing, knowing...

Someone Buy Me This Airstream Turned Funeral Coach Turned Escape Room
Facebook Marketplace has provided us many gems in our day, but I can’t think of anything quite as glorious as this that has been transformed into the most incredible funeral-coach-slash-escape-room you’ve ever seen. I’ve never wanted anything more, and I am truly heartbroken that it is pending sale. It...

Blip: Elegant Like An Air Horn
Blip: Elegant Like An Air Horn
I like how the headline for this little Simca reads “elegant in its own right,” and the Simca’s little face is more like a pug dog seeing you pull a massive chain of sausages out of a paper bag. It’s a look of absolute, all-encompassing, pants-soaking interest/horror/shock. So, sure,...

What Are The Worst Bumper Stickers You've Seen?
I truly cannot find a single good thing to say about bumper stickers. I don’t know how anyone feels strongly enough about a cause to commit to slapping a bunch of stickers on their precious vehicle (although I know people feel the same way about my tattoos). But I...
