Traffic Jams: Chastity Belt - 'James Dean'
Traffic Jams: Chastity Belt - 'James Dean'-February 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:12:04

I’ve been in a musical slump lately when it comes to finding new things to listen to, which means I’ve turned back to my playlists from 2016 and 2017 to revel in the comfort of my favorite music from college. And now we’re here, back in the land of Chastity Belt, one of my favorite all-woman acts.

No Regerts is yet another one of those albums that in my eyes, falls into the “first album, best album” category. It’s just one banger after another, with deep longing knitted in alongside cheap beer humor, which is an apt summation of my entire personality. As one Pitchfork reviewer noted, the album is about “how dumb the objects of your sexual desire can be; which parties suck, because of whom and what can be done about it; fucking and drugs, and how great and lousy both make you feel; the regressive fun to be had shouting the word ‘vagina.’” That about sums it up.

“James Dean” was the first Chastity Belt song to pop up on my Spotify Discover, so it always has a place in my heart. I remember singing along to this bad boy live during South by Southwest like my life depended on it, despite the fact that I was essentially a bored child with little life experience. Now I am a bored adult with little life experience, and I still vibe with the whole album. At the very least, it’s good for sweltering summer days and not-cold-enough cheap beer — and we’ve got plenty of both of those things here in Texas right now.

Almost exactly ten years ago, on April 27th of 2011, Malaysian businessman Tony Fernandes purchased Caterham Cars. While the company was mildly successful selling recreations and continuations of a sports car model Lotus stopped selling in 1972, Fernandes pumped a ton of money into the brand and brought it...

The Emory RSR Is The Latest Reason I Can't Quit Forza Horizon 4 No Matter How Hard I Try
Forza Horizon 4 has been actively supplied with a drip feed of regular content since its 2018 release, and lots of it’s been free. That kind of consistency in long-term support is rare in gaming — outside of blockbuster titles like Fortnite, anyway — but it’s ensured that I...

We Can Still Learn Plenty Of Lessons From Ralph Nader's Unsafe At Any Speed
Automotive safety has come a startlingly long way since the mid-20th century, but that doesn’t mean we’ve solved the safety problem yet. And revisiting Ralph Nader’s Unsafe at Any Speed over five decades after its publication shines a light on all the work we have left to do. Most...

What Did You Name Your Car?
I’m in the process of making my first vehicle purchasing experience for a vehicle that is Just For Fun, not because I desperately need it. And I have been in a heated debate with my husband about what we need to name it. It’s a Suburban. A big, beefy...
