T-Topped 1977 Dodge Aspen For $5,150!
T-Topped 1977 Dodge Aspen For $5,150!-March 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:18

If you think that an Aspen vacation is exclusively for the wealthy, has a surprise for you- a highly optional that you can afford!

Yesterday you decided that the force was not with the seller of a particular '80s SUV. Today, we're going arboreal with a Dodge Aspen that's willing to flip its lids for you. When they were introduced in 1976 as replacements for the venerable Dart/Duster/Valiant line, the Volaré and Aspen appeared ready to meet the competition from Ford and GM head on.

Unfortunately, as admitted by in his autobiography, the pair had been rushed to market, and lacked the testing and R&D time that would have caught many of the problems that plagued early adopters. The rusting fenders, stumbling engines and shoddy build quality issues were mostly addressed by the time the ‘77s were rolling off the line, but that was too late, and the F-body twins became poster children for the sweet malaise of American manufacturing craptitude.

But all that shouldn't stop you from appreciating this lovely example of an Aspen Coupe from 1977. From the "watch out where the huskies go" paint color to the 145bhp 318 V8 this car is all original. And nothing says original 1970s like a hot set of T-tops. That's right, just like a Corvette, you could pop out the glass panels and toss them into the trunk for all your melanoma inducing pleasure. The juxtaposition of the T-tops and the opera window-bedecked padded vinyl top mean this Aspen will be ready for anything, from a night on the town, to the early bird special at Olive Garden. And its yours for the taking.

The seller claims that the car is "highly optional" and who are we to disagree? It's still nice to have an option, and the inclusion of such niceties as an 8-track tape player, working cruise control (possibly meaning the throttle sticks) and two fender tags only sweetens the deal. And what a deal that is; $5,150 is the asking price for everything you see- 2 tops, 4 tires, 8 cylinders and lots of miles to enjoy that white leather interior, leaking top seals, and ponderous handling.

So, does $5,150 put this Dodge at the T-Top of your list? Or is that price as padded as its roof?

You decide!

Would You Go $6,000 for A Clean 1991 Toyota MR2?
Would You Go $6,000 for A Clean 1991 Toyota MR2?
The ad for today’s MR2 says it’s the cleanest you’ll ever find. That may be the case, but does that still mean that its seller will clean up at his asking price? It may not be Shark Week, but yesterday’s shark nosed sure proved to be a great white, er...

For $9,500, This 1985 Suzuki Samurai Goes Long
Suzuki’s Samurai is most memorable for its charm bracelet-tiny size. Today’s edition turns that notion on its head by being sort of a Scrambler edition. Will that, and its price, make you long for it? Yesterday’s may have once cost a pretty penny, but at present 57% of you think...

For $2,800, This 1983 BMW 633CSI Could Be Your Coupe D'état
Today’s BMW is appropriately both shark-nosed and manual-equipped. You’ll need to decide if all that makes its price the coupe de grâce. Volvo’s present lineup includes the XCs which are good for those rustic gravel driveways favored by artisanal wine makers and purveyors of yet to break out primitive folk...

Millennials Aren't Buying More Cars, There Are Just More Millennials
Today, we take down more breathless contrarian reporting about how Millennials are just as suburban and car-obsessed as previous generations. Following several stories drawing questionable inferences from flawed migration data claiming that Millennials are disproportionately choosing the suburbs () come two articles in quick succession from Bloomberg and the Atlantic,...

For $3,850, Will This 1973 Volvo 142 Rally To The Cause?
Today’s Volvo is described by its seller as a street-legal rally car, and does have a lot of lights on its grille to support that notion. That’s all really intriguing, but will you find that to be enough to make its price seem like a Hella good deal? Along with...

Could This Time Capsule 1978 Chevy Chevette Pull $5,000 Canadian?
Today’s Chevette is claimed to be original, right down to its - now most likely coprolitic - tires. It also rocks low miles, a jazzy plaid interior, and the desperate need for you to judge the originality of its price. Chevy’s attempts at a home-grown small car had not proved...
