Unbelievable Sub-17-Minute Lap Sets New Isle of Man Record
Unbelievable Sub-17-Minute Lap Sets New Isle of Man Record-August 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:14:11

During this weekend’s Isle of Man Tourist Trophy, Michael Dunlop rode his Hawk Racing BMW to a record-shattering sub-17 minute lap of the 37.73-mile Snaefell Mountain Course not once this weekend, but twice, reports . The quickest of the two laps had an average race speed of 133.392 mph.

That’s twice what most highway speed limits are, just for reference. Going 37.73 miles in under 17 minutes anywhere is insane, but especially on the narrow roads that make up the treacherous Snaefell Mountain Course.

Dunlop’s quickest lap time of 16:58.254 is the first time ever anyone has ever dipped under the 17 minute mark for a lap of the Snaefell Mountain Course, per .

Tyco BMW rider Ian Hutchinson had already broken the previous lap record during the weekend, notes Sport Rider, but Dunlop set a time 19 seconds faster than Hutchinson to take the Superbike win. Dunlop’s race winning lap was a full 1:15.643 under that previous Isle of Man TT record.
