Update: Hyundai Santa Cruz Gets Production Green Light
Update: Hyundai Santa Cruz Gets Production Green Light-May 2024
2023-12-14 EST 02:30:42

Hyundai willenter the

lucrative double-cab bakkie market as reports indicate that the Santa Cruz Concept bakkie has been given the green light for production.

It has been reported that the Hyundai Santa Cruz Concept bakkie has finally been given the thumbs up for production. Speaking to Reuters, Hyundai Motor America's vice president of corporate and product planning, Michael J. O’Brien confirmed that executives have given the green light to produce a production version of the Santa Cruz Concept.

An arrival date has not been confirmed as of yet but 2019 seems likely and the U.S. will be a key market. The new model has not yet been confirmed for the South African market, but if you consider Hyundai's success in South Africa and the high demand for leisure double-cab bakkies, we think the Santa Cruz would fit right in.

Hyundai Santa Cruz is a stylish bakkie

The Santa Cruz is said to be for the ‘urban adventurer’ who is in need of versatile yet stylish transportation. The Santa Cruz certainly looks stylish with its big front hexagonal grille and strong front-on features. The LED headlights have also been shaped to add a menacing appearance. There are also rear doors although you wouldn’t say so from the images here, Hyundai says the Santa Cruz has convenient rear-hinged rear doors which integrate seamlessly with the front door design. The oversized wheels add to the stance and are complete with centre-locking hubs. The Santa Cruz bakkie is an all-wheel drive machine, featuring Hyundai’s HTRAC system for distributing power to the wheels that need traction.

Engine power in this Santa Cruz concept comes courtesy of a 2.0-litre turbodiesel with 142 kW and 406 Nm so there’s plenty of shove and go available. It even promises to return 7.8L/100km. This is one of the best bakkie concepts we’ve seen in a long time and something like this would really suit our lifestyle oriented market. Go on Hyundai, build it so it looks exactly like this and then bring it to SA!

40 Percent of American EV Owners Want to Go Back to an ICE Vehicle
It was a common belief, just a few years ago: Once car buyers switch to an electric vehicle, they never want to go back. The draws were obvious: a dynamic ride, zero gasoline bills, a healthy conscience, to name just those. That belief is still commonly cited in some parts of Canada, like British Columbia and Quebec, where uptake of...

Volkswagen is one of the carmakers most committed to electrification. While the North American range currently comprises just one model (with a second to follow before the end of the year with the ID.Buzz), there are five in Europe. However, like other manufacturers, Volkswagen is dealing with a slowdown in the growth of demand for its EVs, which also means...

Hyundai’s subcompact Inster is an affordable EV that might be out of reach
Automakers are announcing lots of new EVs, but affordable models are unfortunately rare. Hyundai is bucking the trend toward bigger, pricier models with the Inster, a subcompact electric SUV scheduled to debut at the Busan International Mobility Show in South Korea later this month. Named after the words intimate and innovative, but also throwing back to the old Hyundai Veloster,...

Lotus Emeya EV Can Be Charged from 10 to 80 Percent in 14 minutes
The Lotus Emeya electric car sets a new mark for a production car, as it can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 14 minutes. Those hesitant to make the jump to EVs often mention the difficulty of accessing a charging network. Even more often, they cite the time it takes to recharge the vehicle. Manufacturers are working...

Americans Prefer Hybrids Over EVs, Finds AAA
Recently, we shared a J.D. Power study about the purchase intentions of Canadian consumers concerning electric vehicles. It revealed that slightly more than half were not ready to make the transition. Looking at the glass half full, this means nearly 50 percent of people in Canada are considering an electric vehicle for their next purchase. That percentage is notably higher...
