Do you miss bold, vivid as much as I do? Do you wish cars were offered in more than just gray, other gray, black and white? Well, Volkswagen’s Netherlands division is here to show you how things used to be with a Polo wearing the colorful Harlequin paint scheme.

On Monday, Volkswagen showed off a Polo wearing the striking Harlequin (Harlekin in Germany) paint scheme in Holland. The occasion? Celebrating a quarter-century since the last Polo Harlekin.

That circus of a car was designed to showcase Volkswagen’s — a modular system that cut the Polo into four categories. Customers configured their Polos through a color-coded system to select the desired drivetrain, equipment, options and paint color. This tribute to the Harlequins of past is even rarer as a one-off. Still, it’s a beautiful reminder that cars don’t have to be boring shades of gray or colors so muted they may as well be gray. I feel so tempted to do a Harlequin-inspired color scheme on one of my own cars.

Why BMW Put the Kibosh on Alpina's Four-Cylinder 460-HP i8
Perhaps the most recurring about the plug-in hybrid, scissor door-having BMW i8 sports car has been that it has the looks and price of a supercar, but at under 400 horsepower, not the power of one. But critics might have changed their tune if they’d had the chance to...

Watch a Dummy Lose Control of a Ferrari F12 and Crash It Into Barriers on Both Sides of the Road
A Ferrari F12 puts down about 730 horsepower to its rear wheels. That’s a lot of power. On a somewhat wet road like we see in this video, it’s pretty likely that stomping hard on the benzina pedal will result in those rear wheels spinning and losing grip, breaking that...
