Volkswagen Put Some Big Ass Touchscreens In The Golf R
Volkswagen Put Some Big Ass Touchscreens In The Golf R-September 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:43

We're champing at the bit to get our paws on , but before it's unleashed in the U.S., VW used it as a platform to show off some massive touchscreens, a new interface, and gesture controls, because… uh… CES?

The Golf R Touch concept is basically the standard Golf R but with three displays. There's one 12.3-inch screen to replace the instrument cluster, similar to what Audi has done with the TT, but two more running do the center of the dash.

At the top is a 12.8-inch touchscreen for infotainment and then another 8-incher below that for media and (ugh) climate control. It's a bit like the display in the Tesla Model S, but cut in half and much more customizable.

But while there's plenty of screen real estate for big fat buttons, VW didn't stop there. Cameras are mounted inside the car let the driver or passenger trigger a variety of commands using gestures like moving your arm and twisting your hand.

Volkswagen says that, "Despite the continually growing complexity and number of functions, this concept was intended to reduce driver distractions while attaining maximum personalization and intuitive operation in the car." Sure.
