Watch Me Talk About Car History On The History Channel This Weekend!
Watch Me Talk About Car History On The History Channel This Weekend!-February 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:12:19

Oh I look so dumb in these screengrabs

If there’s one thing I love, it’s two things: cars and the knowledge of car-related events that happened in the past. Incredibly, the entire field of things of all sorts that happened in the past has a name: history. Who knew? Even more incredibly, there’s an entire network dedicated to the subject, and even more more incredibly, , and I’m on it! Hot damn!

It’s called The Cars that Built the World, and it’s a two-night event, much like the two night events formed by you going out drinking and then having a hangover all the next day and evening, and will start this coming Sunday, May 23, at 9 PM (8 central!).

An awful lot of ground gets covered here, from the very early days of Karl Benz and, to the founding of Mercedes, to from humble origins to greatness, the story of Volkswagen, and lots more.

I talked about so much stuff for this show that I really have no idea what bits ended up in the final cut and what didn’t. There’s also a lot of your other favorite automotive journalists on the show, too, so this thing is really star-studded, at least if your definition of “star” is incredibly, wildly generous.

Want to see a clip? Well, too bad, I’m putting one in here, anyway:

History Channel Cars That Built The World

So, why not watch it? What else are you doing that’s so important?

I’ll be watching it to see if they cut out the part where

If they cut that out and feed the Benz-invented-the-car-myth, I’m gonna be a little pissed, not gonna lie.

I guess I’ll have to watch and see. Oooh, they better not twist my words!

The Mistakes We Make
The Mistakes We Make
On Monday, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi was roundly condemned, , for telling Axios’s HBO show that the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi by the Saudi government was “a serious mistake,” just like when Uber killed a woman with its self-driving car. Khosrowshahi then dismissed both incidents by saying “I...

Hyundai's Committing $410 Million More To Make The Santa Cruz Compact Pickup Truck
Remember the Santa Cruz compact pickup thing Hyundai trotted out at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show? The company’s executives do–because in spite of skepticism, it once again seems they’re still committed to making this mini truck a reality. We’ve had a few “yes it’s really happening” updates on this...

The New Ferrari Roma Is A Swoopy And Classy Road Trip Supercar
The Ferrari Roma’s smooth silhouette, long snout, and relaxed posture remind me of the Ferrari Maranello. That should be enough to get your attention since that super coupe was one of the greatest design triumphs of the 1990s. But it looks like the Roma will be pretty hot in...

Here's Where Painted Lines On The Road Came From
When it comes to the various bits of infrastructure that help keep us safe while we drive, most likely the greatest cost-and-simplicity to benefit ratio has to be painted lane lines on roads. They’re just stripes of paint, but they make driving vastly safer and more manageable than it...

There Was A Time When Ford Didn't Think The Mustang Brand Was Worth What A Fancy Truck Costs
There Was A Time When Ford Didn't Think The Mustang Brand Was Worth What A Fancy Truck Costs
How much do you think the Mustang brand identity is worth to Ford today? A hell of a lot, right? It’s a legit automotive icon, and the only non truck/crossover/SUV they’re still even willing to sell in America anymore, so you’d think it’s safe to say that the Mustang...
