Watch Parrots Mess With Traffic Cones at a New Zealand Construction Site
Watch Parrots Mess With Traffic Cones at a New Zealand Construction Site-July 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:57

Someone or something kept moving in a construction zone along a popular tourist route on South Island. The cones had been placed on the road at the entrance to Milford Sound in 2016 while the Te Anau, or Homer Tunnel, was undergoing maintenance, but the cones kept mysteriously moving, according to . The culprit, it turned out, was some curious Keas, the world’s only alpine parrot, as the reports.

The video is from 2016, but it’s still amusing to watch today. Traffic workers with the New Zealand Transport Agency set traffic cameras up at work sites on both ends of the one-way tunnel to see why the cones kept inexplicably moving, and discovered that young were the culprits. Just watch as the pandemonium of shuffle the cones around:

I guess a really is the best way to refer to a bunch of wily parrots, though the Keas in the video seem more mischievous than malignant. It could depend on who you ask, however, as the parrots seem to have absolutely around large moving objects like cars.

The intelligent birds had been pushing the cones around the construction sites, even rerouting traffic in some cases. The agency the Kea parrots were most likely moving the cones in an effort to draw human attention, and hopefully, human food. Crafty buggers.

The parrots’ scheme was so well thought-out, NZ workers even claimed the Keas would listen for cars coming through the tunnel before moving the cones, shuffling them in between streams of traffic.

But despite the birds’ genius plan, agency workers began using heavier traffic cones, which the parrots couldn’t move. Back in 2016, Kea parrots were already on the endangered species list, so the agency had to stop the Keas from putting themselves at risk.

As of 2023, it’s estimated there are fewer than 7,000 Kea parrots left in the wild. At least it seems like no Keas (or traffic cones) were harmed in the making of the old video.

Remember When Pimp My Ride Put a CT Scanner In An '84 Crown Vic?
Pimp My Ride was a wild TV show from the mid ’00s that would not only fix up, but wildly customize absolute beaters for people from the LA area. The crew put TVs in just about everything that could hold a TV (mud flaps, mirrors, visors, etc.) not to mention...

At $11,900, Could This 1983 Porsche 928 S Get You Out On A Grand Tour?
With the pandemic now ebbing across most of the country, we can once again turn our attention to grand touring. Today’s 928 S should be a grand tourer par excellence, but will its price tag have you planning on staying home. Think about the last time you yanked a...

Cars In Virginia Are All Gooped Up
If you’re in Virginia, and you’ve been noticing your car is gooped, all gooped up, sticky, dripping with a sappy, goopy substance this spring, don’t worry. It’s just bugs shitting on it. No biggy. They’re called aphids and they’re going absolutely wild when it comes to shitting on stuff...

A TikToker Spreading Some Unfounded Car Decal Theories Is Going Viral
It seems like every time some dumb social media trend dies, it’s not actually gone for good. It’s only gone dormant in order to return later and clog up our screens another day. That’s what has happened in the infamous (not real) case of child traffickers using to mark...

Blip: The Hatch Act
It’s Friday! The day I learned that this picture is not, in fact, a shot of the signing of the Hatch Act, which was from 1939, long before these For Taunuses existed. No wonder I got the “lowest AP History score ever recorded,” according to those assholes at The...

McLaren Put A Windshield On The Car Known For Not Having A Windshield
Arguably the coolest car McLaren has built in the last two decades, the roofless Elva, is getting a follow-up. As you probably know, the Elva up to this point has been available without a windshield, including instead a small rectangular air deflector at the nose to push air up...
