Were You A Conscientious Tesla Buyer? We Want To Hear From You
Were You A Conscientious Tesla Buyer? We Want To Hear From You-May 2024

An early red Tesla Model S sits on an auto show floor

The year is 2012. You’re sitting at your Dell Inspiron desktop, listening to the VEVO music video for “Somebody That I Used To Know,” when : Tesla Motors, that , has started production on its . The pitch is a simple one: Save the planet without giving anything up in exchange. All the luxury, comfort, and class you’re used to, in a car that won’t spew hydrocarbons into the atmosphere. You’re intrigued, interested even. You put down a deposit.

The year is 2023. Elon Musk has once again taken to Twitter, a website he , to and . This , and it likely won’t be the last. After eleven years of watching Musk The CEO eclipse Tesla The Earth-Saving Brand, do you still own that Model S?

A blue Tesla Model S

That’s the question we’re putting forth to you all today. Back in the early days of the Model S, it appealed to an environmentalist demographic. This was 2012 after all; electric cars weren’t yet mainstream, and charging was even less convenient than it is now. To get an electric car, you had to really want it — and find its Earth-saving potential to be worth its day-to-day inconvenience.

If you bought a Tesla for ideological, environmental, or similar reasons, we want to hear from you. When did you buy the car, and why? Do you still own it? If so, why do you keep it around; if not, what made you sell? Have the actions of the company’s CEO factored into your car-buying (or car-keeping, or car-selling) plans?

Send me an email, . I’m genuinely very curious as to what effect Musk has had on the people who buy Tesla cars for their environmentalist cred — if any. Who knows? You might just make it into an article right here on the jello picnic website.

At $4,500, Does this 1964 Rand/Cushman Mailster Deliver?
Today’s Mailster offers mid-engine power, sliding door convenience, and three-wheel quirkiness. Even with all that, it’s hard to say just what someone might do with it. Let’s see if its price inspires any ideas. There’s been a good bit of debate around here as to whether the Maserati brand...

At $2,295, Could This 1990 Lincoln MK VII LSC Let You Drive in Style?
Today’s Lincoln MK VII is an LSC (Luxury Sports Coupe) which means it has the Mustang’s high-output V8 and extra gauges. It’s also a little rough around the edges. Could an appealing price let you look beyond its flaws? “Don’t mod me, Bro” is a lament we hear time...

The End of the Cheap New Car Is Nigh
There are only three for sale in America that are available for . It’s generally hard to sell small cars at a healthy profit in the U.S., and automakers prefer to make a healthy profit when they sell cars. So, most of them ignore people who (ew!) don’t have...

At $23,800, Will This 2005 Maserati GranSport Prove a Grand Bargain?
Today’s Maserati offers an exotic car experience at a non-exotic price. Will it prove a good enough deal to fend off claims of poseur status? There’s nothing better than open roads and a comfortable car in which to ply them. Yesterday’s was a car originally designed to eat up...
