The QX50 has been revised for 2016 with a little more length, which we’re told translates to an additional 8.3 cubic feet of space inside over the outgoing version. The long rear door makes me think this is going to be a very passenger-friendly vehicle, so I’ll make sure to shake down each seat for you.

There’s only one available engine; a 3.7 liter V6 that makes 325 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque. That’s hooked up to a seven-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive or an “Intelligent” AWD system which we’ll learn more about when we drive it.

The AWD version starts at about $36,000, at just a $1,500 premium over the rear-drive version. Infiniti claims either drivetrain can hit 24 MPG on the highway.

On paper, this feels like a decent value vehicle compared to German alternatives. I’ll be acutely aware of what kind of gas mileage we can squeeze out of it, and how the real-world driving experience differs between the AWD and rear-wheel drive variations.
