What Do You Want To Know About The 2022 Polaris Slingshot?-September 2024

Image for article titled What Do You Want To Know About The 2022 Polaris Slingshot?

While I was at Spring Mountain for the Ron Fellows Corvette Driving School, one of my fellow attendees asked if I rode motorcycles. When I said no because of my terrifying lack of balance, he said, “Well, then you should try a three-wheeler.” Mere weeks later, Polaris asked if I wanted to drive their Slingshot.

It’s taken me more than enough time to finally get behind the wheel. Their original loan offer for the 2021 version coincided with a period of time where I was out of the country, and I let the company know I was interested in driving the 2022 version whenever I could. A few weeks after that, I got the offer.

The Polaris Slingshot is not exactly a practical vehicle. It’s not your daily driver, and it’s also not really your everyday fun vehicle because of its three-wheeled, open-top construction. But I’m determined to find out who this vehicle is for and share my impressions with you fine folks.

Unfortunately, at the moment, I can’t give you too many details to whet your palette. Polaris is keeping most of the specs under wraps until a later date, at which point I’ll be able to give you my review.

That said, the previous iteration started around $20,000, ran to about $33,000, and featured a 178-horsepower 2.0-liter engine with the option of a manual or an automatic transmission. There are a handful of different trims that improve things like paint finishes, audio, and technology, and add features like Apple CarPlay and paddle shifters. They’re like the best kind of toy since they don’t cost a ton and were kind of like those electric Barbie Jeeps I had as a kid.

I’m getting behind the wheel ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show, so if you’ve got questions, concerns, or curiosities, I want to know ‘em now. That way, when I’m behind the wheel, I’ll be able to hunt down everything you need to know.

Is $6,000 A Deal For This 1980 Chevy Corvette Project?
It goes without saying that everybody should own at least one Corvette in their lifetime. Today’s C3 looks to be about the lowest point of entry to do so but will its era and condition make that point seem pointless? Oh the debate that was had over yesterday’s. On one...

For $6,900, This 1985 VW Scirocco Might Be All That
Volkswagen’s in-house design for its second-gem Scirocco may not have been as successful as the Giugiaro original, but as today’s example proves, it has aged pretty well. Will its price however also grow on you? Have you ever been to the bar at a Black Angus? Is there a bottle...

For $7,500, This 1996 VW Passat TDI Has Miles To Go Before It Sleeps
A 2011 University of Arizona study found that 71% of gas pump handles contain germs closely associated with illness. Blech! Today’s VW Passat is a TDI and has an incredible range that’ll allow you germaphobes to pass lots of pumps. That is of course, if its price doesn’t make you...

The Chevrolet Camaro Is About To Have A Stingray Moment
My drive of a prototype was all-too brief because I (oops!) and got kicked out of the event, but I think I can tell you a little bit. But first, let us pause for reflection. After all, it’s not every day a new Camaro comes out. The nameplate’s nearly 50...

How About A Faux 1991 Bentley Continental R Replica For $12,500?
How About A Faux 1991 Bentley Continental R Replica For $12,500?
They say you’ve got to fake it until you make it. Nothing says you’ve made it like a Bentley, and today’s Continental R replica will let you fake that social attainment like nobody’s business. That is, if its price isn’t too rich for your blood. Volkswagen’s Scirocco is named after...

For $2,500, This 1981 Chevy Citation X-11 Is A Rare Moving Citation
The one single important factor that Chevy’s Citation lacked during its production run was… well, pretty much everything. Today’s X-11 tries to address at least part of that with a hot injection of Caddy V8. Will its price however, be low enough to ensure that’s the cure? Before we dive...
