What's The Best Gas Station Logo?
What's The Best Gas Station Logo?-March 2024

Image for article titled What's The Best Gas Station Logo?

We talk a lot about car brands, models, and badges here, but what about the marketing efforts that sell other motoring products? In specific, what about gas stations?

Whereas cars differ significantly from one to the next, though perhaps less than we are willing to admit, most gasoline is basically the same. Sure, there are different grades and you should use the right one for your car, but when it comes to Mobil versus Conoco, or Sunoco versus Getty, it’s really .

Except for the advertising, that is. Each network of stations has a well-developed brand image, from name to color scheme to logo. And some are definitely better than others.

My personal favorite is Sinclair Oil. The long-necked dinosaur is a perfect mascot for a gas station. After all, it is a fossil fuel you’re filling up with.

But gas stations are regional. There are hundreds if not thousands of chains out there around the world selling fuel, each with its own set of logos, slogans, and colors.

So which is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below and don’t forget to include a picture unless you’re reallygood at describing. Like really good.

Volkswagen Is Finally Done With Bugatti ... Mostly
Ferdinand Piëch’s legacy is being unmade, Toyota doesn’t think it’ll beat GM for long, and Vauxhall. All that and more in for July 6, 2021. Ferdinand Piëch , a dumb old rich guy who does whatever he wants, thereby giving the rest of us conversation fodder. One of his...

It's Time For Real Talk About Power Seat Controls
I’ll admit, I hadn’t given power seat controls much thought years ago. See, most of my miserable old cars have manual levers and pawls and ratchety things to scrape the seats into different positions. But, of course, many, many modern cars provide electric motors to do the work for...

The Volvo 850 T-5R Is Still Underappreciated
It is usually called Cream Yellow, or sometimes Gul Yellow, but its actual name is T-5R Yellow, a pale, perfect shade for a pale, perfect car. For some reason, this car remains more liked than envied. ( Volvo recently invited me to New Jersey to drive its 850 T-5R, though,...

Over 200 Fascists Quickly Retreat To Rental Trucks During Confrontation With Only 10 Philadelphians (Update)
If you fuck around in Philadelphia, you will quickly find out. That’s what a white supremacists group, trucked all the way from Texas to the nation’s birthplace on the eve of July 4, learned after their group of 200ish haters were quickly turned back by under a dozen Philadelphians. (...

Blip: Ami Wrangling
See what’s happening here? This was a real problem in 1960s and 1970s France: little kids, coaxing innocent, unsuspecting Citroën Amis into private, enclosed yards, usually never to be seen again. To this day, nobody knows where these Amis are. ...

Retractable Hard-Top Convertibles Are A Doomed Fad
The onslaught of retractable hard-top convertibles over the last two decades basically died overnight, and since I don’t think many people cared enough to realize it, I also don’t think anybody is going to be upset over it. The writing has been on the wall for the retractable hard-top...
