Maserati has a new mid-engined sports car on the way, the MC20. Inside is the , the brand’s first in-house motor. It’s a three-liter twin-turbo (or should we say ?) V6 that’s good for more than 600 horsepower. It’ll probably do great in that car, but it’ll need to find its way into other models in order for Maserati to get the most out of its investment.

In the past, Maserati has had to make do with engines from other brands. The V8 in the monumental fourth-generation was a Ferrari lump, more or less. As is the V6 in the current Quattroporte, Ghibli, and Levante.

A couple of months ago Maserati let everyone know that it was not only continuing to develop its…

In the past, engines went the other way, though. Not to Ferrari perhaps, but to other automakers that had a stake in Maserati. The V6 in the Citroën SM, for example, was a Maserati design. That motor would even power as well. And it gave me a thought. This motor belongs in cars across the ranges of Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot, Citroen, and Opel parent PSA as well. With an engine like the Nettuno in the family, these brands have an opportunity to introduce sophisticated performance beyond the “” philosophy.

It’s looking likely that Fiat Chrysler has finally found a merger-mate in Groupe PSA. If this new…

My first choice for where this motor should go is a reborn Citroën SM, of course. I’ll always pull to resurrect my all-time favorite. But I know it has potential across all the lineups joined together by the FCA-PSA merger. I’m sure you think so as well. So where should the Nettuno go? Which brand could use it best? You Can Get Your Brand New Alfa Romeo In Some Of The Best 1970s Hues
Just because car buyers seem to think that are the only appropriate colors to paint a car doesn’t mean agrees with the trend. In fact, the new Stelvios and Giulias are outfitted in some of the best 1970s-reminiscent shades around, and I am here for it. You heard that...

Hyundai's Mid-Engine Sports Car Sounds Like It's Going To Happen Even If Hyundai Won't Say So
Today at the LA Auto Show, Hyundai showed the RM19 Racing Midship Sports Car “concept,” and it was an odd debut for a mid-engine test mule that has been in development since 2012. The thing is, it sounds like Hyundai’s actually doing it, in some form or fashion. reports...

Comment Of The Day: Throwing Shades Edition
Alfa Romeo wasn’t prepared for this kind of smack down, but I’m not sure it doesn’t deserve it. With in its current lineup, surely Alfa knew that the can of worms was opened and would result in people making connections between the current cars and its 1970s lineup. Don’t...

What Should Be The Next Big Racing Movie?
In the past few years, we’ve had both and , two very great historically-based movies about motorsport that, for all their minor flaws, still kick so much ass that it’s hard not to wax a little poetic about them. But what other racing movies should we be getting out...
