Why Buy A Million-Dollar Hypercar When You Can Buy This Pristine 1967 Toyota 2000GT Instead?-September 2024

I get it. You have a million bucks and change burning a hole in your tuxedo pockets, and you’re desperate to own one of those fancy hypercars like your neighbors all have. Who hasn’t been in that situation? But I am here to tell you to go another route: .

Why go with electric motors, turbos and unfathomable track day speeds when you can own this beauty instead? There is no contest, in my book.

The Toyota 2000GT, as enthusiasts know, was a limited-edition sports car from the late 1960s that helped put Japan’s then-fledgling auto industry on the map with its stunning curves and extremely capable performance in its time. It also starred in the Bond film You Only Live Twice, sans roof to accomodate the large frame of Sean Connery.

Powered by a Yamaha-sourced 2.0-liter inline six mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, it is a mechanical treasure. Just 2,317 miles on the clock for this one!

Only 351 2000GTs were ever produced. This red one on eBay Motors is one of just 62 left-hand drive examples of the car. While it’s for sale in Missouri at the moment, it hails from Switzerland and has been extremely well cared for. From the listing:

Chassis number MF10-10193 was imported to Switzerland in January 1969 and was delivered to its 1st owner in mid 1971. This example had a frame off restoration in 1993 by Mr Andy Gioppe and since 1995 the car has resided in the Emil Frey AG Collection.

After 25 years, the engine was in need of an overhaul which was commissioned to Roos Engineering LTD to prepare it to a very high standard. At this time, a complete engine overhaul was performed as well as, Brake system overhaul, suspension including shocks, new differential seals, new tires, re-trimming original seats, restoration of all wood veneer, replacement of all rubber seals and various cosmetic touch-ups to the highest standard!

It is indeed a very, very gorgeous example of an extraordinarily rare and landmark car.

The listing is up for the next five days and as of this writing, it is going for the “buy it now” price of just $999,500. A high price indeed, but the car has been skyrocketing in value in recent years.

Plus, why buy a Porsche 918 Spyder when you can have this vintage icon?

Update: I'm Still Burning Money

I Ordered A Carbon-Fiber Roof For My Porsche 996 Turbo And I Might Throw Up A Little
I bought maybe the cheapest Porsche 996 Turbo—that’s right, —on the market a year ago, and I’ve mostly been happily stacking miles on the odometer since then. I have been working on making the car my own with a period-correct set of wheels, some extra carbon trim, and a...
