Would You Drop $7,500 On This Dropped 1984 Volvo 245 Wagon?
Would You Drop $7,500 On This Dropped 1984 Volvo 245 Wagon?-November 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:09:58

How low would you go? Today’s Volvo’s been lowered a bit, but not so much that snakes bellies have anything to fear from comparison. Let’s see if this sweet old wagon’s price likewise needs to be any lower.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, yesterday’s dropped in a Crack Pipe loss. Perhaps a little more unexpected, that loss was a massive 90%, one of the worst drubbings we’ve ever seen here. We also heard from the seller, and he was rightfully miffed at the result. Sorry dude.

Today’s lives in Denver, and as testament to its fitness, its present owner says he would not hesitate to drive the car to California. My response to that is; bring water when you come, amigo.

This Volvo is as blue the ocean that laps California’s coast, or as the cloudless skies that are seemingly unabating in the Golden State. The ad says that paint is original, while the similarly-hued vinyl interior looks to be in perfectly serviceable condition too.

Perhaps most surprisingly for a car that lives in a state with cold snowy winters—do they salt the roads in Colorado?—is that it seems to be rust-free. In fact, it looks pretty damn good under the hood where you might expect it to look a little more like the Crypt Keeper owing to its age.

The engine in there is a non-turbo 2.3-litre B23F four, good for a rousing 111-bhp. Behind that is an M46 four-speed with what looks to be a O/D button on top. The seller says the combo runs amazingly even despite the 240,000 miles that have been put on the car.

Not all of the parts have made it that far, and the ad notes that normal maintenance and replacement of worn bits has been dutifully maintained by the previous owner. Among those replacement parts is a set of adjustable coil-overs that drop the Volvo like it’s the bass and this is a Skrillex show. And yes, that was a nod to the millennials.

It’s not too low, as it does look like it can still navigate railroad crossings and manhole cover lips without too much trouble. Tucked up underneath the now cozy fenders is a set of Porsche Gas Burners, complete with Porsche crest centers. The ad says those are mounted with custom spacer/adapters, and also notes that the factory steelies come along with the purchase. I’d go with the steelies, but that’s just me.

That purchase, by the way, would set you back a cool $7,500. That’s not chicken feed, but it’s also not all that much to get a reasonably reliable, decent condition, and too cool for school ride. Add to that a clean title and maybe this Volvo just plain adds up.

What do you think about this rare four-speed Volvo wagon and that $7,500 price? Does that seem like a fair amount to drop on the car in its present, and dropped, state? Or, does that price make you as blue as the car?

You decide!

Denver , or go if the ad disappears.

For $19,600, This 2003 Brabus ML58 Is More Sport Than Utility
How do you like your classic sport utilities biased; more towards the sport, or tilted to the utility? If it’s the former, then today’s ML58 might just be your ride, that is if its price doesn’t make you want to miss the Brabus. Brabus, you know the name, you know...

For $9,500, This 1985 Suzuki Samurai Goes Long
Suzuki’s Samurai is most memorable for its charm bracelet-tiny size. Today’s edition turns that notion on its head by being sort of a Scrambler edition. Will that, and its price, make you long for it? Yesterday’s may have once cost a pretty penny, but at present 57% of you think...

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio Is Delightfully, Joyfully Flawed
When I learned I’d be driving the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Quadrifoglio Verde, my mind was filled with the denizens of the Italian Car Cliche Swearbox. For $34,800, This 1976 Chevy Caprice Estate Comes With A Boat
There are few wagons bigger than today’s Caprice, but if that alone is not long enough, this one comes with a boat and trailer to sweeten the deal. You’re going to have to decide however if that helps to keep the price from sinking the deal. While much debate was...
