You Can Now Apply To Drive A Tesla Model S Race Car
You Can Now Apply To Drive A Tesla Model S Race Car-June 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:28

We already have and now we have this: the , which is the self-proclaimed first-ever zero-emissions GT championship. The first season will start in 2017, with the series launch and Tesla Model S EGT race car unveil taking place in Ibiza today. And you can totally apply to be a driver in the series.

As you know, the Electric GT Championship (not to be confused with , those guys ) will use Tesla Model S P85+ cars that have been kept largely stock:

We are making only small changes to the production Model S P85+ such as improved braking and aerodynamics to increase high speed grip. We will strengthen suspension, braking, cooling, and steering as well as reducing the overall weight. The rest, powertrain, battery, programming, everything is original.

There will be 10 teams and 20 drivers, who will compete in seven races over the course of the inaugural season. Each Tesla Model S race car will be identical to the next, which is the same format found in Formula E. And they need drivers!

When you visit the and click on “,” you are brought to a portal where you can actually apply to be a team driver, or an “Electric Hero,” as Electric GT calls them. A hero of the Age of Light. Seriously:

These “Electric Heroes”, admitted for their courage, outstanding achievements and noble qualities, will play an important part in accelerating towards a new era, “The Age of Light” when the series gets underway in 2017.

The Age of Light!

It then asks you to fill out a form with your name, email address, a racing license, a brief description about yourself (favorite foods goes here, I believe), and your CV. And that’s it. You are now an ELECTRIC HERO OF THE AGE OF LIGHT.

Electric GT hasn’t addressed how it has engineered the Model S to handle sustained track driving without overheating, but I’m looking forward to learning how they’ve solved that problem.

In the meantime, here’s a trailer for the race.

World Anti-Doping Agency Is Skeptical Of Haas' It's-Not-A-Russian-Flag Livery
The Haas Formula 1 Team — the only American team in F1 — debuted a Russian flag with a race car behind it on Thursday. I can only describe the Haas VF-21 chassis in such a fashion because the influence is so blatant. The team’s new title sponsor, a...
