Ford has confirmed the current Ford F-150 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine’s days are literally numbered in the U.S., with ordering only open through this Friday, July 16 before it’s axed likely for good.

first reported that “the Ford 3.0L Power Stroke V6 will be dropped from the F-150 lineup in the near future,” which was later confirmed in more detail by directly from Ford.

From The Drive:

Ford explained to [The Drive] via email that you can order a brand-new, 14th-generation F-150 with the Power Stroke diesel, so long as it’s by Friday, July 16. If you do that, you’d have a pretty rare bird in your driveway come delivery time.

It’s not clear what delivery time for the last of the Power Stroke F-150s would be given the current unfortunate economy of chip and part supply shortages, on top of Covid-19 virus complications over the last year, that have been bottlenecking production of other custom-order models like the new Ford Bronco for months.

As , and as any Ford salesperson worth their spit would likely explain, other engine options have caught up to the claimed advantages of the 250-horsepower, 440 lb-ft of torque Power Stroke’s once-unique applications. Cryptically, Ford does not break down the truck’s U.S. sales figures into specific models, so it’s not immediately clear how many 3.0-liter diesels Ford sold.

The new 3.5-liter PowerBoost hybrid truck, which gets improved fuel economy over the outgoing Power Stroke diesel, or the non-hybrid version of that 3.5-liter engine that puts down a near-identical 500 lb-ft of torque to the diesel, offer competitive packages depending on the driver’s habits. I’m sure some near-future hybrid-or-full electric powertrains will really fill any technical gaps in the lineup.

However, that’s not to say we aren’t losing something that’s a bit of a novelty. Our review of the 2018 3.0-liter Power Stroke F-150 from 2018 . It’s a charming truck with plenty of pull, but it just may finally really be redundant with modern hybrid technology.

Toyota MR2 Spider prices are all over the map, but you don’t usually have a pin drop on one that’s as rough as today’s candidate. Could its low price make it worth investing in a little polish? Based solely on the joyous comments on yesterday’s you’d think we had just...

The 2018 Kia Stinger GT Versus Other Good Cars You Could Get For $45,000
I just spent a week abusing the –a $45,000 365-horsepower rear-wheel drive sport sedan made by a company that was largely invisible to driving enthusiasts 10 years ago. Suddenly Kia makes a legitimate practical performance car, and we all want to know how it compares to logical and maybe some...

What Kind Of Car Company Does Volvo Want To Be?
Dean Shaw, Volvo Cars USA’s handsomely bespectacled VP of corporate comms, bellows the word to a ballroom full of sleepy-eyed car journalists—conceivably to both wake them up and emphasize what the morning’s lecture would focus on: “Electrification!” (In July 2017 (yes, 2017) I asked Deadspin video god Tim Burke if...

At $4,000, Could This 1992 Mercedes 300TE Be Your Long Term Longroof?
Mercedes is a fine exemplar of the phrase ‘they don’t build ‘em like they used to.’ Today’s 300TE is an example of the standard that’s no longer being met. Could its price build on that? Man, people are all about the ‘80s these days, what with Radwood fever sweeping the...

At $18,500, Could You T-Top This 1982 Datsun 280ZX?
The X in today’s 280ZX stands for X-sports car, as the model is more a GT than a corner crusher like its immediate predecessor. Some people do like their cars to be a bit softer, but will this classic coupe’s price put you between a rock and a hard place?...
