TheRenaultMegane collection has been updated for 2012with a fresh design and numerous upgrades across the range. As part of the upgrade, Renault introduces the new Mégane Coupé 1.6 Expression, which now replaces the previous Dynamique model. The 1.6 Expression is joined in the Renault Coupé stable alongside the range-topping Mégane Coupé 1.4 Turbo Control Efficiency GT Line.

Engine Capability?

The new 1.6 Expression Coupé is fitted with Renault’s popular 1.6-litre, 16-valve petrol engine that is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The engine produces 81kW at 6000rpm with 151Nm of torque available at 4250rpm. The 1.6 Expression will sprint to 100km/h in 10.5 seconds while reaching a top speed of 190km/h. Fuel efficiency is rated at 6.9-litres/100km with a CO2 emissions figure of 159g/km.

The GT Line Coupé is powered by a lively 1.4 Turbo Control efficiency petrol engine that produces 96kW at 5500rpm with 190Nm of torque available at 2250rpm. The GT Line will reach 100km/h in 9.7 seconds and will go on to reach a top speed of 200km/h. The combined-cycle fuel consumption figure for the GT Line is 6.3-litres/100km with a CO2 emissions figure of 145g/km.

Exterior Styling

The sporty design of the Renault Megane 1.6 Expression is characterised by a racy new front bumper which incorporates bold air intakes and is finished in gloss black with a chrome trim that highlights the slim upper grille aperture. The 1.6 Expression is fitted with 19-inch ‘Kaleido’ alloy wheels along with new integrated fog lights and body-coloured door sills and mirrors.

The GT Line version sports an aggressive front bumper incorporating signature boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights along with integrated fog lights. The GT Line is fitted with striking 17-inch ‘Celsium’ Dark Metal alloy wheels and the overall design is enhanced by dark anthracite grey finishes for the LED/fog light housings, mirrors and rear diffuser.

??Interior Styling

The Renault Megane 1.6 Expression’s interior features a chrome gear lever and door handles. The centre console has a grained effect with dark carbon trim panels on the dashboard, ventilation surrounds and steering wheel. The seat upholstery further complements the Expression’s dynamic design.

For the GT Line, the interior includes leather/cloth upholstery on sports seats with signature stitching on the steering wheel and gear lever. Red pin-striping can be seen on the dashboard trim strip and the analogue instruments feature a white rev-counter. GT Line badges are found on the dashboard and seats.

?Standard Features

Standard features for the 1.6 Expression include a front-loading MP3/CD player with Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity, remote central locking with auto-locking function, electric windows, height-adjustable driver’s seat, air conditioning, multi-function trip computer and cruise control with speed limiter function.

The GT Line adds to the standard features list with dual-zone climate control, automatic rain and light sensors, Carminat TomTom navigation system and 8-speaker Arkamys 3D Sound. The GT Line also includes a Visio system (Automatic high/low beam system) and a manual camera-based lane departure warning system.
